29 Points in One Quarter

Happy Wednesday and welcome to March! This is the Daily Breakroom and we’re kind of like Nikola Jokic, we can do a little bit of everything.

Here’s what we got today:

🏀 Performance of the Day

🏒 Rangers Making Moves

🏈 A 26 Million Dollar Breakup

Let’s jump into it.

Performance of the Day

We mentioned Denver Nuggets center, Nikola Jokic in the opener. While he did just go for his 100th triple double last night in a win at Houston, he’s not winning our POTD. As impressive as Jokic is by becoming the 6th player in NBA history with the triple double milestone, our POTD is going to Ja Morant.

Morant recorded a triple double in a 121-109 win vs the LA Lakers. He had 39 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. More impressively, Morant scored 28 of his 39 in third quarter alone.

Rangers Making Moves

The New York Rangers have been making aggressive roster moves since the NHL All-Star break. Last night, the Rangers acquired star right winger Patrick Kane from the Chicago Blackhawks. The Rangers are going all in with their effort to win the Stanley Cup. We’ll see if Kane can return to his level of play that we saw previously when playing with Artemi Panarin, whom he’ll be rejoining as part of this trade.

This was a 3 team trade, check out the tweet below to see how it’s laid out.

A $26,000,000 Move

We like our zeroes at the Daily Breakroom. You know who likes zeroes too? Carson Wentz. Unfortunately, he was released by the Washington Commanders and will be seeing zero paychecks. The move will save Washington $26 millie in cap space for next season.

Wentz was almost an MVP for the Philadelphia Eagles. He lost his starting job to Jalen Hurts and then Wentz was traded to the Indianapolis Colts. Wentz was then traded to the Washington Commanders in 2022 in an offseason dealing with the Colts. He was plagued by injury and lackluster performances, which led to him being cut as he wasn’t owed any guaranteed money. There’s no word of where he’s going yet, but some speculate he may rejoin his former coach, Frank Reich, in Carolina.

Extra, Extra, Read All About It

We love throwing in a little extra and we almost wanted to select Anze Kopitar for having the POTD. Kopitar had 4 goals in a NHL matchup where his Los Angeles Kings came from behind and defeated the Winnipeg Jets 6-5. Check out his 4th goal below.

We’ve got lots to look forward to in March. We’re talking regular season crunch time in the NHL and NBA, March Madness starts in 2 weeks, and MLB opening day is March 30. We’ll keep updating you on all the relevant stories throughout the month.

If you’re looking for something good to watch tonight, check out Kevin Durant’s return from injury and debut game with the Phoenix Suns. The Suns take on the Charlotte Hornets at 7:00pm EST.

Thanks for reading and enjoy the day!
