300 Homers
+ First Big Upset At The US Open
Good Morning! We’re 1 day away from a long weekend and it’s the official week 1 of college football. Some of y’all were upset we called it week 1 last week when some people call it week zero. Well, we don’t worry much if the glass is half full or half empty, just that we better get a refill at halftime.
Anyway, we got some fun stories today, followed up by some fun tonight.
Let’s get to it.
Harper Goes Deep For Career #300
Philadelphia Phillies' star player Bryce Harper achieved a significant milestone by hitting his 300th career home run against the Los Angeles Angels. The two-run homer, his 15th of the season, came in the eighth inning off pitcher Matt Moore, giving the Phillies an 8-7 lead. Despite Harper's achievement, the Angels managed a comeback, winning 10-8.
Harper's impressive performance continued as he homered in three consecutive games for the second time in August, totaling 10 homers for the month. Harper becomes the 158th player in MLB history to reach the 300 mark. His first career homer came on May 14, 2012.
Harper has helped the Phillies get back to the top of the National League wild-card standings, just a year after leading the team to the World Series.
BRYCE. HARPER.

University of Nebraska Women's Volleyball Team Did What?
The University of Nebraska Women’s Volleyball Team has done some remarkable things.
✅ Have 5 National Championships
✅ Is one of the only Women’s D1 sports to make a profit ( ~$1 million)
✅ Sell out 306 consecutive regular-season matches
✅Lead the nation in attendance since 2013
AND NOW THEY’VE DONE SOMETHING CRAZIER
They filled the Nebraska Football’s Memorial Stadium with 92,003 fans on a Wednesday night for a volleyball match against Omaha. Read more about the story here.

Upset At The US Open
Swiss player Dominic Stricker got his first against a top 10 player at the US Open by upsetting World No. 7 Stefanos Tsitsipas in a full five-set match. He won 7-5, 6-7, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 to advance to the third round at a major for the first time. Stricker, making his debut in New York, displayed all the mental toughness you need to last throughout a four-hour and 10-minute battle. Stricker is set to face Benjamin Bonzi in the next round.
Tsitsipas, who had faced a first-round exit last year, struggled once again at the US Open and was unable to progress to the second week for the sixth time. Tsitsipas hit the ball well but committed too many errors on crucial points.
Other US Open News
Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek, and Coco Gauff cruised to the third round with straight-set wins against their opponents.
NBA Refs Pulls The Kevin Durant Move
Long-time (19 years) NBA referee Eric Lewis announced his retirement from reffing on Wednesday amidst a social media activity investigation being completed by the league.
It’s thought that Eric Lewis pulled a “KD on Twitter” move and had a burner account where he was defending himself and other refs when fans would comment on what they thought were bad calls.
With the resignation, the NBA is ending their investigation, because, you know, there’s no reason to find out more information on what was going on.
NFL QB Updates
Joe Burrow
Joey B is back in full pads since he pulled his calf just over a month ago in practice. He’s participated in throwing sessions but let’s hope he can stay healthy for the first week and help the Bengals spoil the Cleveland Browns home opener in week 1.
Joshua Dobbs
Josh Dobbs has only been with the Arizona Cardinals for a few days but Cardinals’ head coach Jonathan Gannon said Dobbs is already very comfortable with the offense. It shouldn’t be too much of a learning curve for Dobbs as the Cardinals’ OC was Dobbs’ QB coach last year when they were both in Cleveland.
Dobbs did study aerospace engineering at the University of Tennessee, so picking up an offense might be easy. It all comes down to whether or not he has enough talent to lead the Arizona offense until Kyler Murray gets back.
