A 3-Day Battle In Rome
Today's Estimated Reading Time: 5 Minutes
Good Morning!
We’re less than a week away from MLB playoffs, we’ve got a few nice matchups in both college football and the NFL this weekend and best of all, we’ve got the RYDER CUP starting on Friday!
Let’s talk Ryder Cup, then we’ll bounce around to our other topics and then you can get back to your meetings.
Ryder Cup
The Ryder Cup kicks off the competition on Friday live from Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy.
Before we get started, let’s discuss what the Ryder Cup is.
The Ryder Cup is one of the world’s best sporting events. Okay, “the world” might be a stretch but at least two continents love it. It’s a competition that dates back to 1927 where every 2 years, 24 of the best players from Europe and the United States go head-to-head on the course. The competition takes place over 3 days.
Here’s the format and one thing to note is every single match is worth 1 point and one side just needs 14 ½ points to win the competition(there are only 28 points you can win)
Day 1(Friday): Four foursomes and four four-ball
There will be a total of 8 matches that include 2 players from each team for each match. In foursomes, player A will hit a ball and then player B will hit the next shot. The opposing team will do the same and the lowest score between the teams will win the hole.
In four-ball, each player plays their own ball and whoever has the lowest score between the teams, gets the hole.
Day 2(Saturday): Same as day 1
Day 3(Sunday): 1 vs 1
We have 1 vs. 1 matchups where all 12 players from each side must play.
There you have it. 8 matches on Friday, 8 on Saturday, and 12 on Sunday, totaling 28 matches where each side could grab a point for each match.
How Can You Watch?
There is one issue when it comes to the Ryder Cup being played in Rome…. It starts a little early for the US viewers. Here’s the schedule.
Thursday, Sept. 28: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. ET (Opening Ceremonies on Golf Channel)
Friday, Sept. 29: 1:30 a.m.-12 p.m. ET (USA)
Saturday, Sept. 30: 1:30-3 a.m. ET (USA); 3 a.m.-12 p.m. ET (NBC, Peacock)
Sunday, Oct. 1: 5:30 a.m.-1 p.m. ET (NBC, Peacock)
Who Will You See Playing?
Good question, let’s cover the rosters. We discussed this about a month ago but as a reminder, each team consists of 6 auto picks based on performance throughout the golf season and then 6 captain picks where the captain can choose his golfers.
Team USA
Captain: Zach Johnson
Auto Picks: Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, Max Homa, Wyndham Clark, Brian Harman
Captain’s Picks: Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, Sam Burns, Collin Morikawa.
Team Europe
Captain: Luke Donald
Auto Picks: Rory McIlroy, John Rahm, Robert MacIntyre, Tyrrell Hatton, Matt Fitzpatrick, Viktor Hovland
Captain’s Picks: Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Sepp Straka, Shane Lowry, Ludvig Aberg, Nicolai Hojgaard
……
That’s probably a good dose of Ryder Cup talk for now. We’ll cover more later in the week.
MLB Playoffs
The Milwaukee Brewers already secured a playoff spot but on Tuesday they clinched the NL Central when the Chicago Cubs lost to Atlanta Braves. The Brewers did lose to the Cardinals 4-1 yesterday but still celebrated. If you clinch the division, you deserve the champagne showers!
The Philadelphia Phillies will be returning to the playoffs after Johan Rojas had a walk-off single in extra innings to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night.
WALK IT OFF INTO RED OCTOBER.

NFL Injury Update
We’re covering injuries from week 3 so you can make your fantasy adjustments. Let’s check in with what happened over the weekend.
QB’s
New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr is out with an AC joint sprain in his shoulder. He’s expected to miss time but how much time is the question. Jameis Winston is the backup, but you should have a QB on the roster that’s better than Jameis?
Jimmy G is in the concussion protocol so he could miss this weekend’s matchup against the Chargers. Brian Hoyer is set to back up the Garoppolo. This isn’t a call to grab Hoyer off waivers but it might be time to evaluate your receivers if you have Davante Adams starting. Although if Hoyer plays, they could use Adams on lots of short passes to get things moving. If you’re in a PPR league, maybe leave Adams in.
RB’s
The Chargers need Austin Ekeler back but after this week 4 matchup against the Raiders, LA has a bye week. I expect they’ll keep Ekeler out for one more week and he’ll be good to go in 3 weeks.
The NY Giants face the Seattle Seahawks this weekend. I think Matt Breida is a good RB to put in your lineup this week with Saquon still out.
The Packers play the Lions on Thursday night and Aaron Jones is still nursing a hammy injury. AJ Dillon has been getting some carries but doesn’t have any TDs. If you need an RB, he might a last-second grab tomorrow.
WR’s
The Chargers lose a big-time receiver with Mike Williams going down for the year with an ACL tear. Joshua Palmer is the next dude up and he’s already productive. He caught 4 passes for 66 yards and a touchdown in week 3.
Jaylen Waddle sat out on Sunday while the Miami Dolphins destroyed the Broncos. If you have Waddle on the bench, expect to be throwing him back in the lineup on Sunday as it sounds like his concussion protocol progression is going well.
If you have Christian Watson on the bench, you likely already made a change last week. Hang tight and see if you can push any roster changes until the last minute before the Packers player tomorrow. Watson was dealing with a hamstring injury and it’s likely that he’ll be a go for tomorrow, but if you can wait until an hour before game time, you’ll have more info.
That’s all for today. We’ll catch up with you tomorrow.
Have a great day!
