Almost a month of football
What’s up everybody. We were on a little break with some writing but we’re looking like we’ll back in the swing of things to at least chat about some football on the weekends.
Let’s get our feet wet and jump right into this thing.
Thursday Night Football
We’re not going to sit here and recap this full game, but we do have a few points and questions to ask. The Jets hosted the Patriots and beat them down 24-3 on a short week of rest.
The first question we need to ask is this. Are the Jets good or are the Pats just really bad?
The next question is, could the Jets be Super Bowl contenders? I know, I know, it’s week 3. But they actually look good. They got it on defense, and they got it on offense. Is this what we could have seen last year?
Here’s what I mean.
The Jets defense held the Patriots to 139 total yards. We know the Jets’ defense is good, but 139 against in the NFL is impressive, even if the Patriots’ offense is bad.
The difference for me when watching this game was Aaron Rodgers' mobility. It was there, and it looks better every week. He could move around, get outside the pocket, scramble, and make super accurate throws. He was 27 of 35 for 281 yards and 2 touchdowns. It sounds cool that he’s able to move around, but does this mean the Jets' O-line still isn’t where it needs to be? Do you really want Rodgers running around for 17 weeks before playoffs start?
We’ll find out who the Jets are by week 8. They’ll face a tough Broncos, Bills, and Steelers defense in three of the next four weeks.
Congrats to Jets fans for still having a winning record at this point.
Friday Night Lights
🏈 It was Friday Night Lights (inside) at Syracuse University, where the Orange took on Stanford in the Cardinals’ first ACC Football matchup. The Orange, who were 2-0 and possibly looking at a top 25 ranking with a win, couldn’t pull through even though Kyle McCord would throw a TD with just under 2 minutes left to play. Stanford would get the ball down the field and would kick the game winning field goal with the clock hitting 00:00. Super weird seeing Stanford play in ACC action in the Northeast.
🏈We had a ranked vs ranked Big10 matchup with #22 Nebraska hosting #24 Illinois. These two teams haven’t played each other since both were ranked in 1985. Nebraska was hoping to get off to one of their best starts in years, and they had a chance to kick a field goal and take the lead with a field goal, but backup kicker John Hohl missed a 39-yarder. This game would go into OT and Illinois only needed two plays to score. Nebraska went for -14 yards on their OT try. Illinois is now 4-0 on the season.
Saturday Ball
We’ve got a few big matchups today. We’ll break them down and give you some bets to throw down if you want in on the action.
#11 USC @ #18 Michigan
📺️ 3:30 pm ET on CBS
💰️ USC is the favorite in Ann Arbor by 4.5 points and the over/under is at 44.5. Yes, both of these are for good reasons. Michigan’s offense is slow and needed a QB change, which they are making for this game. We’ll see what Alex Orji can do because all we’ve ever seen is him running the ball. No one likes Michigan because of their offense this year, but their defense is still hot. Did Texas tear them up a bit? Sure, but damn, Quinn Ewers is just that good. Michigan might not be facing Ewers this week, but the USC offense is super talented, and they are led by Lincoln Riley, who can get it together with a QB. Miller Moss is leading the Trojans at the QB spot this year, averaging over 300 yards per game in the air. Not too shabby. All signs point to taking USC -4.5 and the under probably hitting, but as a Michigan fan, I won’t be betting on this one.
#12 Utah @ #14 Oklahoma State
📺️ 4 pm ET on FOX
💰️ I think this game is a pick for whoever you like game. Everyone seems to be in on Utah as the spread started with OKST being the favorite at -2, but Utah is now the favorite at -1. We’ve got a 3 points swing in less than a day. So that’s the line. Utah, -1. The over/under is 53.5, and I’ll be hammering that. Utah has only hit the over in 1 of their last games, and OKST hit the over in 2 of their last 3. I think we’re destined for a shootout in Stillwater.
#6 Tennessee @ #15 Oklahoma
📺️ 7:30 pm ET on ABC
💰️It’s a big day for football in Oklahoma. I feel like every day is actually that in Oklahoma, but you get the point. Here’s what we have going on. Oklahoma is a 7-point underdog at home in their first-ever SEC game. Tennessee is looking to show that they are the real deal and deserve their #6 ranking. When thinking about this game, you might be looking at the Tennesse high-powered offense vs a Brent Venables-managed defense. Well, the storylines might even get flipped this weekend. Tennessee has been holding teams to limited points while scoring several touchdowns weekly. The Tennessee defense might be the more impactful group this week. Oklahoma has a weaker O-line than normal and they barely escaped Tulane last week. I think Tennesse quickly covers this one on the road. The O/U is 56.5, and that’s a tough one. Gut feeling tells me it’s under this week.
Alright, that’s all we have for you today. We’re still working through some NFL analysis, so hopefully, we'll get something out tomorrow morning so you can be better informed about your bets.
Have a day!
