Another Sunday In The Books

Good Morning,

We hope you enjoyed your weekend of sports. We’ll cover a few things that happened on Sunday and we’ll also talk about some upcoming events over the next two days.

Let’s jump right in.

Women’s World Cup

We currently have 5 teams that have qualified for the Round of 16 at the Women’s World Cup. Switzerland, Norway, Japan, Spain, and Sweden have all earned their spots coming out of their groups.

The group you probably want to know about? Group E…. It all comes down tomorrow morning when the USWNT faces Portugal and the Netherlands faces Vietnam. Both games are at 3 am ET so by around 5 am ET, the USWNT will know if they are advancing or not.

We touched on this the other day but here are the scenarios again.

The USWNT can advance with a win or a draw against Portugal. They can also advance with a loss to Portugal but the Netherlands needs to lose as well.

The US vs Portugal game will be on FOX and the Netherlands vs Vietnam game will be on FS1.

We’re going to do you a favor and not discuss the results in tomorrow’s write-up in case you want to record and watch later. All bets are off Wednesday morning though!

MLB Trade Deadline

The trade deadline is tomorrow Aug 1 at 6 pm ET and teams are making some moves. Here are a few that just happened this weekend.

  • The Texas Rangers acquired left-handed starter Jordan Montgomery, right-hander Chris Stratton from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for minor-league infielder Thomas Saggese, right-hander Tekoah Roby, and left-hander John King. (Reminder: The Rangers just traded for Max Scherzer as well)

  • The St. Louis Cardinals traded reliever Jordan Hicks to the Toronto Blue Jays for RHPs Adam Kloffenstein and Sem Robberse.

  • The LA Angels are trying to make something work in an effort to reach the wild card. The Angels traded pitching prospects Jake Madden and Mason Albright to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for OF Randal Grichuk and first basemen C.J. Cron

The Belgian Grand Prix

Surprise, surprise…. Max Verstappen won again on the F1 circuit. Verstappen won his 8th race in a row even after starting in the 6th position due to the 5-position penalty he received. It took Verstappen only 16 laps to get back into the lead in which he overtook his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez, who came in 2nd.

We now enter the F1 summer break and won’t be back until August 27th when the racing returns to the Netherlands for the Dutch Grand Prix.

3M Open Results

Lee Hodges dominated the 3M Open on the PGA Tour with a wire-to-wire win as he was at the top of the leaderboard after every round at this week’s tournament. The wire-to-wire win is impressive but what’s also impressive is that he was 7 strokes ahead of the next guy.

That doesn’t happen very often on the PGA Tour.

And it also doesn’t happen with a guy who was +8000 to win.

This a big win for Hodges, not only because it was his first and he gets paid $1.4 million but he also gets 500 Fedex Cup points jumping him from 74th in the standings to 33rd. Only the top 70 players get in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, so the timing of this win was perfect.

Who Should I Believe

We have this runningback feud/drama in the NFL right now. I was going to write a drama-filled paragraph about the runningbacks but we’ll just give it to you straight.

Someone, somewhere reported that Colts’ RB Jonathan Taylor failed his physical with the Colts after reporting he had back pain.

Now this is interesting because the back pain would come from a non-football injury which would basically mean the Colts wouldn’t have to pay him his salary this year if he couldn’t play.

It’s also interesting because Taylor is part of this RB group that is complaining about their lack of pay and how they’re getting beat up on the field while playing under their rookie contracts and then aren’t getting the long-term deals other players are getting in their 2nd contract.

Now get this tweet(is it still called a tweet?) from Taylor.

This is some Tom and Jerry stuff and I don’t know what to believe anymore.

That’s all for today. Start your week off right by referring your friends so they can get awesome updates too!
