Is Bad Thursday Night Football Back?
Today's Estimate Reading Time: 3 Minutes and 46 Seconds
Happy Friday and Welcome to the Daily Breakroom. We’re here to give you sports updates and analysis and are cool about it too.
We’re covering the NFL, College Football, and the MLB today. Don’t like it? Well, this ain’t a Burger King.
Let’s flip these patties.
Chiefs Grab 16th Straight Win Over Broncos
To summarize quickly, the Kansas City Chiefs are 5-1 and the Denver Broncos are 1-5.
I’m not sure which path to take here. Do we talk about how the Broncos were 2-3 at this point last year? Was it really a Nathaniel Hackett problem last year? Is it a Sean Payton problem this year? Is it a Russell Wilson problem?
Whatever it is, the Broncos have a problem. The Broncos had 197 total yards last night.
Russell Wilson was 13 of 22 and threw for 95 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INT. As my brother so concisely described it, Russ is OVERCOOKED.
Look, the Denver Broncos aren’t the worst team in the league, at least I don’t think. If this were corporate America, we’d say the offense and defense just don’t have “synergy”. One week the offense scores 33 points but the defense lets up 35. Last night the defense held Kansas City to just 19 points, which is a great job considering the Chiefs had many redzone opportunities. What do you know, the offense could only string together a few plays to score 8 points in the 4th quarter.
I can’t imagine the vibes are strong in Bronco Country.
I’ll tell you where the vibes are strong. Kansas City, Missouri! They love winning in Kansas City and they sure do it a lot. Travis Kelce was the star of the show, catching 9 passes for 124 yards. Kelce was able to shake off his ankle injury from just a few days ago. Mahomes would finish 30 of 40 from the pocket for 306 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT. He threw the lone touchdown pass to Kadarius Toney.
College Football
We don’t normally recap Thursday night college games, but this one’s a must.
There was some wild Big 12 action last night in Houston. A lot happened in the last 8 minutes but we’ll fast forward towards the end.
The Houston Cougars were beating the West Virginia Mountainers 35-32 last night. West Virginia had the ball with 22 seconds to go on a 4th and 10 from the 50-yard line and West Virginia threw a touchdown pass on a semi-seam route.
The score is now 39-35, West Virginia is UP with 12 seconds to go.
Now Houston got the kickoff and got the ball to the 50 with just 3 seconds left on the clock and you can probably guess what happens next.
PRAYERS GO UP AND A CATCH COMES DOWN IN THE ENDZONE. That’s a Hail Mary.
Houston wins 41-39. Check out the crazy ending here.
Drama In Baseball Land
Year after year, it’s the same story. The “best” team or the team with the most wins gets a bye round, and then they come up completely empty in the Division Series. I can’t say I feel bad for a team. If you’re elite, then you’re elite. You should be able to string together 3 wins over a team that just had to play at least 2 games in a wild card round. NO EXCUSES.
So what happened last night?
The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Atlanta Braves 3-1 last night and took the series in a 3-1 fashion. The Phillies advance to the NLCS after beating the best team in the MLB.
So the League Championship Series are set.
The ALCS will start on Sunday with a matchup between the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros.
The NLCS will start on Monday with the Arizona Diamondbacks facing the Philadelphia Phillies.
This is already a wild playoff, please don’t let the Astros make it to another World Series.
