Carolina Hurricanes Can't Catch A Break

+A Sunny Sunday In Rochester

Today’s Estimated Reading Time: 3 minutes and 31 seconds

GM. We had more OT action on the ice in Carolina, some great action in Los Angeles on the hardwood, a rainy day on the golf course, and a horse race that came down to the final millisecond. Let’s switch up the order and jump into the results and what to look for this Sunday.

Stanley Cup Playoffs

Eastern Conference Finals, Game 2

Florida Panthers 2

Carolina Hurricanes 1

The Florida Panthers keep getting their breaks as they beat the Hurricanes in a quadruple OT matchup on Thursday night and they entered another OT game last night and came out on top.

Carolina went up 1-0 with a goal in the first 2 minutes of the game scored by Jalen Chatfield. The ‘Canes would score a 2nd goal towards the end of the period but it was called a no-goal by the officials at Carolina was offsides.

Aleksander Barkov would tie it up for Florida midway through the 2nd period with a slick fake dangle between the legs goal. Although Carolina would be the more controlling team throughout the game they couldn’t put any more pucks in the net.

This game would go into OT but would be over quickly. Matthew Tkachuk would score the game-winner on power player in the first two minutes of OT and now the Panthers lead 2-0 in the series.

Western Conference Finals, Game 2

Dallas Stars at Vegas Golden Knights, 3:00 pm ET on ABC

NBA Scores and Schedule

Western Conference Finals, Game 3

Denver Nuggets 119

Los Angeles Lakers 108

The Denver Nuggets are 1 game away from their first NBA Finals appearance after going up 3-0 and handing the Lakers their first loss at home during the playoffs.

This is a story that we’ve heard before with the Denver Nuggets. They led most of the game and went into halftime up 3 points. The Lakers would tie it up during the 3rd but eventually head into the 4th down 2 points.

The Lakers would come out firing in the 4th and grab the lead at the 11-minute mark but the Nuggets would overtake the Lakers for good roughly four minutes later. LA would be outscored 35-26 in the 4th quarter.

AD had 28 for the Lakers and LeBron and Austin Reaves had 23 each.

Jamal Murray was the big dawg for the Nuggets once again, scoring 37 and hitting 5 threes. Nikola Jokic would also score 24.

Eastern Conference Finals

Boston Celtics at Miami Heat, 8:30 pm ET on TNT

  • Miami leads 2-0 in the series

The PGA Championship had another messy round on Saturday with on-and-off rain that created some soft conditions. Brooks Koepka went -4 in yesterday’s round and he now leads the pack 6 under. There are only seven players under par currently so let’s take a look at the leaderboard.

1 Brooks Koepka -6

T2 Corey Connors -5

T2 Viktor Hovland -5

4 Bryson DeChambeau -3

T5 Scottie Scheffler -2

T5 Justin Rose -2

7 Rory McIlroy -1

Here’s a cool story. Michael Block who is a PGA Professional (which is different than being a professional golfer) has shot three consecutive even-par rounds. He’s currently tied in 8th with Justin Suh and because of that, he gets to play his final round on Sunday with Rory McIlroy.

You can tune in at 2 pm ET tomorrow to catch the tee pairings from the top of the leaderboard. The afternoon action will be broadcasted on CBS from 1-7 pm. If you’re not running around this morning and are looking for something other than Sunday cartoons then you can catch the morning play on ESPN from 7 am - 1 pm ET.

Check out some highlights from round 3 if you’d like.

Preakness Stakes

Bob Baffert returned from a two-year suspension and his horse National Treasure held off Blazing Sevens on the final stretch to give Baffert his 8th Preakness Stakes win. This win makes Baffert the winningest trainer in Preakness history. This win also means that there will not be a triple crown winner this year as the winner of the Kentucky Derby, Mage, placed third in Saturday’s stakes.

Enjoy your day and remember…. Don’t let your Mondays ruin your Sundays!!!
