+ Golden Knights Dominate
Today’s Estimated Reading Time: 2 minutes and 59 seconds
Happy Tuesday. We hope you enjoyed the long weekend and are feeling refreshed for the summer. We had some stellar performances last night on three playing surfaces so let’s get to it.
Miami Heat End Boston’s Comeback Hopes
After being down 3-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals, The Celtics got exactly what they wanted. A game 7 back in Boston. It’s no surprise that even with the Heat winning 103-84 this result still came down to a game of inches. The big story of this game was Jayson Tatum getting injured on the first possession of the game when he drove the baseline, euro stepped, collided with Gabe Vincent, and landed just on the edge of Gabe Vincent’s foot with Tatum rolling his ankle. Tatum wouldn’t be the same player for the rest of the game. In fact, he said that he was “just a shell of himself”.
The Heat came out fast and took advantage. They outscored the Celtics by 7 in the 1st quarter. The Heat would grab a 10-point lead by the end of the first half. The Celtics got the Heat by 1 point in the 3rd but still faced a 9-point deficit into the 4th and they didn’t have the full ability of their top closer. The Heat would win game 7 by 19.
Jimmy Butler scored 28 and Caleb Martin scored 26 for the Heat. The Celtics would get 19 from Jaylen Brown, 18 from Derrick White, and 14 from Jayson Tatum.
Miami will face the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Finals starting on Thursday.
Vegas Dominates in Game 6
The Vegas Golden Knights weren’t looking to take a game 7 to their home crowd. They were going into Dallas full steam ahead, ready to get to their 2nd Stanley Cup Finals appearance.
Vegas came out aggressive and took a one-nothing lead in the first 4 minutes of the game. They’d pour 2 more into the net before the end of the period to grab a 3-0 lead. The Golden Knights scored another goal in the 2nd and would have a 4-0 lead heading into the final period. If it wasn’t getting out of hand enough, Vegas left no chance of a last-period comeback. The Knights would score 2 more in the 3rd to win 6-0 and seal their fate.
Vegas will be facing off in the Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers with game 1 starting on Friday.
Notre Dame Grabs First Lax Title
We’ve all heard it before. Defense wins championships. The Notre Dame Men’s Lacrosse team would happily agree. Notre Dame faced off against the Duke Blue Devils in the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship on Monday afternoon. Notre Dame’s defense held the Blue Devils to their lowest-scoring game of the season.
Duke would score in the first 35 seconds of the game and then wouldn’t score for the rest of the first half. Notre Dame scored 6 unanswered and went to the locker room up 5. The Blue Devils would be more successful in the 3rd quarter, tieing up the game 7-7 with a minute to go in the 3rd quarter. That didn’t last long. Notre Dame would score two more goals in the last 30 seconds of the 3rd and grab a two-goal leading heading into the 4th. Notre Dame would go on a 6-1 scoring run in the 4th, and then allow one more goal to eventually win the championship trophy with a 13-9 score.
Congrats to those boys for a successful season and a helluva tournament run!
Have a great Tuesday.
