Thursday Night Football
Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles overpowered and outlasted the Minnesota Vikings in an exciting Thursday Night Football matchup.
The big story was the Eagles’ ground game as D’Andre Swift ran for 175 and a touchdown on 25 carries. Swift only had 1 carry for 3 yards against the Patriots last week. The rushing attack burned the clock all night.
Of course, there are always two sides to a story and for the Vikings, it was the turnovers. The Eagles won the turnover battle on a +3 differential. It wasn’t actually Kirk Cousins who played bad in primetime. Unfortunately, the Vikings had 4 fumbles that all created changes in possession and one of them also sparked a heavy Twitter debate. Before halftime, the Vikings had the ball and were down 10-7, Justin Jefferson caught a pass and made a move toward the goal line, and in an effort to reach out for the TD he lost the ball and it went through the endzone resulting in a touchback. (all the Twitter folks think it’s a dumb rule and the D shouldn’t get the ball if they don’t actually recover the ball).
This was a bit of a turning point in the game because the Eagles moved the ball steadily down the field in just under 30 seconds and then Jake Elliott kicked a 61-yard to give Philly a 13-7 lead heading into the half. Momentum for the Eagles.
That momentum continued when the Vikings fumbled on the opening series in the 3rd quarter and the game started to slip away where it was 27-7 during the third.
The Vikings pushed on and would get the game close at 27-21 but both teams would trade touchdowns one more time.
While the Eagles played an all-around good game, the Vikings actually looked much better than they did in their week 1 debut loss to the Bucs. If you lose the turnover battle by 3 and one of them was almost a touchdown, it’s not all lost. These are things you can fix as a team.
We should also mention that due to the fumblitis, the Eagles possessed the ball for almost 40 minutes and the Vikings only had it for 20. That’s some efficient offense for the Vikings in the 2nd half.

Other NFL News
Steelers D-lineman Cameron Heyward is scheduled to have groin surgery and is expected to miss 8 weeks.
Aaron Rodgers went to Instagram on Thursday to announce his Achilles surgery went very well. (I mean you wouldn’t hop on to say it went poorly, right? )
Trying to save space in the TNF recap, we should mention Justin Jefferson became the fastest receiver to 5,000 yards last night. Damn, he’s really good.
Why Poke Coach Prime?
Colorado State head coach Jay Norvell criticized Colorado coach Deion Sanders for wearing sunglasses and a hat during press conferences. Here’s what Norvell said.
"I don’t care if they hear it in Boulder. I told them, I took my hat off, and I took my glasses off. I said when I talk to grown-ups, I take my hat off and my glasses off. That’s what my mother taught me.”
Why even bring this up? We all know Prime had swag throughout his college and NFL career and he brings that same swagger to the sideline. Prime isn’t some disrespectful 30-year-old coach, he’s a 56-year-old Grown A** Man and he connects better with his players than most coaches can.
Both teams have had differing successes this season, with Colorado off to a strong start and Colorado State losing their season opener. They face off in an in-state matchup on Saturday.
The real question is… does Norvell want his team to lose by 30? Because he’s adding fuel to Deion’s fire.
