A City Wide Case of Amnesia
Good Morning!
Some weird action poured in over the weekend, and we’re about to break it down. Let’s get the coffee flowing and sports talk going.
Also, thanks to everyone who participated in yesterday's poll regarding the court storming. Pretty much everyone thought the college kids should get to have some fun and storm the court. One of our readers did make a pretty good point. Can’t someone from the schools or the refs talk pregame about how they will handle courtstorming? It’s bound to happen; it’s part of celebrating a good win; just figure out a way to do it better.
Women’s College Basketball Is Creating Some Great Storylines
🏀 Caitlin Clark got her 16th career triple-double yesterday as the Iowa Hawkeyes defeated the Illinois Fighting Illini 101-85. Clark had 24 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists. She’s clearly the best college basketball player right now, but does that mean she can lead Iowa to a National Championship? There’s one team that will get in that way, and that is…..
🏀 The South Carolina Gamecocks!….. They are the #1 ranked team in that nation. They are 27-0 and blowing teams out of the water. South Carolina defeated Kentucky 103-65 yesterday. Six players had double-digit points, and Bree Hall led the way with 18 points. Let me run you through some statistical categories real quick.
FG% : ranked 3rd at 50%
3-PT %: ranked 2nd at 41.1 %
Defensive rebounding: ranked 1 in the nation
Points Allowed: In the top 10 with just 54.1 allowed. #1 ranked team in the Big 5 conferences.
Add all of these things together, stir them up a bit, and you get the #1 team in the nation that has an average scoring margin of 32.8 points per game. The closest team to that number is LSU at 25.6.
💰️ Thinking it might be easy money for SC to win the Natty? So does Vegas. The odds of SC winning were +110 but after they beat Kentucky by 48 points, the odds moved to -130.
Chicago Suffers Amnesia
Fun fact: if you type amnesia enough, you start to question if you remember how to spell the word 🙃
I’m not sure if Chicago remembers, but Patrick Kane does not play for the Blackhawks anymore.
Oh, they do remember? So we just had an incredible moment by 21,000 fans at the United Center? 🤙Sweet.
Here’s what happened last night 👇️
Long-time Chicago Blackhawks player and now Detroit Red Winger Patrick Kane made his return to Chicago and was received with open arms with a standing ovation. With the Red Wings down 2-1 well into the 3rd period, Patrick Kane assisted Alex DeBrincat on a goal and this thing was heading to OT.
Fast forward almost 2 minutes into the overtime period, and Patrick Kane got a breakaway opportunity, used his nasty handles, and scored the game-winner on Petr Mrazek. AND THE CROWD WENT CRAZY! Check it out.
BECAUSE OF COURSE HE DID! 🤩

Why Does LeBron Always Do This?
The Phoenix Suns beat the LA Lakers 123-113 last night. Did KD, D-Book, or anyone else go off for the Suns last night? Not really. Did the Suns play phenomenally better than the Lakers? Also, not really. Did the Lakers lose because everyone in the NBA loses some games? PROBABLY.
Well, LeBron James and the rest of the Lakers think yesterday’s loss was all because of the referees! The Lakers got only eight free throw attempts yesterday compared to the Suns’ 19. Is it a large difference? Kind of. Has the opposite ever happened to the Lakers, where they get a ton more free throws? You betcha!
LeBron isn’t happy, and neither was coach Darvin Ham, who said, "I'm not one to use referees as an excuse…. But it's becoming increasingly tough because of the inconsistency. I'm seeing our guys get the same contact on them as we're supposedly committing. And the whistle is not being blown."
SOUNDS LIKE THEY ARE USING THE REFEREES AS AN EXCUSE!
Mr. Triple Doubles
🏀 Nikola Jokic had another triple-double yesterday when the Denver Nuggets beat the Golden State Warriors. Jokic had 32 points, 16 rebounds, and 16 assists.
🏀 Domantas Sabonis had another triple-double yesterday as well. Sabonis and the Sacramento Kings defeated the LA Clippers 123-107. Sabonis finished with 17 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 assists.
Messi Really Is That Good
I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know a lot about soccer. But here’s what I do know. Lionel Messi is really freaking good. Like, so good that he ruins LA Galaxy’s day and ties up a game in the 91st minute. I do have one question, though. Why does he wait so long to score this goal? Can’t he do this all the time? JUST KIDDING. But this goal by Messi is really a thing of beauty. It’s incredible that he sees this play developing in a crowded box and can get even a goal opportunity out of it.

Cam Newton Gets Jumped…Kind Of?
Cam Newton had a team from his youth football organization playing in a 7×7 tournament in Atlanta yesterday. His team won the tournament, and it’s unclear if some extracurriculars occurred before or after his team won, but Cam was jumped by like 5 or 6 dudes at the tournament. From scrolling through Twitter, it seems that some guys who were at the tournament were claiming that they were a better QB than Newton. Somehow, things escalated, and Cam was defending himself against an all-out blitz. He was practically unphased, and it looks like he was just just shedding tackles by a high school football team.
Cam Newton led Auburn to a Natty with 1 O-lineman that started an NFL game and no one else recording a NFL reception, rush attempt or pass attempt. He’s used to being a one man army, so you are delulu if you thought some guys jumping him was gonna phase him. Hat didn’t even move.

Jake Knapp Wins Mexico Championship
Jake Knapp won the Mexico Championship by two strokes yesterday after shooting an even par in the final round at Vidanta Vallarta. Not only did he get his first career PGA Tour win in just his 9th start, but he pulled at the heartstrings of all golfers and viewers as a story was told about Knapp’s grandfather, who passed not too long ago, and how Knapp wishes he could’ve seen this success as his grandfather was a huge supporter.
And to think, just two years ago he was a bouncer at a club just to make some extra cash to keep his dream alive. Whatever kept him in shape to be a bouncer clearly seems to help him with his swing, too. Knapp crushes the ball in an effortless way, and he led the Mexico Championship in driving distance, where he averaged 322 yards during his four rounds. Congrats to a dude who just found his way into The Masters.
