Close Calls in College Football
+ NFL Sunday
Good Morning! You’ll probably be getting this email as you are just finishing the Ryder Cup and watching the US lose. We’ll discuss the Cup tomorrow but first we need to chat about close calls in College Football and Sunday's NFL matchups.
Let’s jump right in.
College Football Saturday Rapid Fire Recap
#8 USC 48, Colorado 41
Colorado was down 48-21 and would score 20 straight in an attempt to come back against the #8 team in the nation. Caleb Williams was 30 of 40 and threw for 403 yards, 6 TDs, and 1 INT. Sheduer Sanders would shine in another appearance completing 30 of 45 passes for 371 yards, 4 TDs, and 1 INT. Colorado would have 564 total yards of offense and it makes you wonder, will USC be able to hold off a talented Washington offense?
#6 Penn State 41, Northwestern 13
Penn State would enter the locker room tied with Northwest at halftime but would knock the doors off this one in the 2nd half. Penn State would score 17 in the 3rd quarter and would score two more times in the final four minutes of the game. Even with the high-scoring game out of Penn State, they only collected 353 total yards on offense.
#1 Georgia 27, Auburn 20
Georgia escaped a close call in an SEC road game after trailing Auburn 10-0 at the end of the first quarter. Georgia would out-athlete Auburn in the final 3 quarters and there were some big-time plays from TE Brock Bowers. He had 8 receptions for 157 yards and 1 TD. Many of those receptions came up in clutch time when the Bulldogs needed a first down. Georgia had a pretty light schedule so far, it makes you wonder what will happen as they still have to face a talented SEC West group that includes, Kentucky, Florida, Tennesse, and then also face Ole Miss from the West.

#24 Kansas 14, #3 Texas 40
Texas started off with a quick 10-0 lead but Kansas would create some tension after scoring on a flukey fumble/scoop and score at the beginning of the 2nd quarter. Texas would dominate in the 2nd half outscoring Kansas 27-7. Quinn Ewer would go 25/35 for 325 yards, 1 passing TD, 1 INT, and 2 rushing TDs. Jonathon Brooks would rush for 217 yards on 20 carries and 2 TDs. We’re all in for a treat with a big matchup between UT and Oklahoma next weekend.
#13 LSU 49, #20 Ole Miss 55
Wow… just wow. That’s the best way we can explain this game which was an offensive showcase. This game was a rollercoaster of plays after Ole Miss grabbed a big 21-7 lead in the first quarter. LSU would get the game close by halftime after scoring 21 in the second quarter and heading into the half down 3 points with the score being 31-28. LSU would score 14 in the 3rd and Ole Miss would only score 3. Lane Kiffin turned up the temp with the Ole Miss offense in the 4th and the Rebels would outscore LSU 21-7 in the 4th. This was an insane amount of offense. LSU had 637 total yards and Ole Miss would have 706 yards. You couldn’t have drawn up a closer game either. LSU had 34 first downs, Ole Miss had 32. Both teams would be near 50% on 3rd down conversion, there were 0 INTs thrown, only 1 fumble and time of possession was almost split perfectly down the middle. You should definitely check out the highlights.
#11 Notre Dame 21, #17 Duke 14
A week after losing to Ohio State on the final drive, Notre Dame came out on the side of the scoreboard in a similar fashion against Duke. The score was 14-13 in Duke’s favor before Notre Dame took over the ball with 2:35 to go in the game. Notre would score with 31 seconds to go on a 2nd and 10 play when Audric Estime escaped some tackles and scored on a 30-yard run. Duke would get the ball back but couldn’t get anything going as QB Riley Leonard took a rough hit and fumbled the ball.

NFL Sunday
We’ve got a few matchups that we’re hyped to watch. Let’s go through them and discuss the odds. Try to not pay attention to the fact that the NFL has scheduled nine 1 p.m. games and only 3 games in the late afternoon slot.
Miami @ Buffalo, 1 pm ET on CBS
The Bills are 2.5 pt favorites at home and the O/U is 53. We know Miami just came off a huge win putting up 70 points but the Bills also cleaned up the Washington Commanders 37-3. I expect Miami to play well on a beautiful day in Western NY and I think they might win outright. I’m taking Miami getting points and the over.
Baltimore @ Cleveland, 1 pm ET on CBS
Baltimore is favored by 2 points in this game and the O/U is 38.5. Lamar Jackson hasn’t gotten the passing game going just yet, but I think this could be a breakout game for him. The Browns are without QB Deshaun Watson and will be starting a rookie today. I’m taking Baltimore -2 and the over!
Washington @ Philadelphia, 1 pm ET on FOX
This one is pretty simple. The Eagles might be undefeated through 3 games but I think they’ve started a bit flat. They are 8.5-point favorites at home and the O/U is 43. I think the Eagles will roll at home but it will be a 31-10 type of day. I’m taking the Eagles and the Under.
New England @ Dallas, 4:25 pm ET on FOX
After two weeks of balling out, the Cowboys suffered a terrible loss against the Arizona Cardinals. The Cowboys are 6-point favorites and the O/U is 43. I think the Cowboys defense is going to eat up Mac Jones after last week’s lackluster performance. I’m taking Dallas -6 and the under.
Kansas City @ New York Jets, 8:20 pm ET on NBC
Taylor Swift might be in attendance at this game(welcome to New York, welcome to New York) but that’s not why I’m watching. The Jets passing game might stink but I want to see how the Chiefs hold up against the Jets rushing attack and I want to see the Chiefs offense put up points against a tough defense. Kansas City is an 8-point favorite and the O/U is 41.5. I like KC and the over.
Enjoy all the games today, try not to get too sucked into Redzone(jk, jk) and remember…..
Don’t let your Mondays ruin your Sundays!
