Cold Takes and Hot Seats: It's What Mondays Are For

Good Morning,

Mondays are tough. We usually try to forget about it. You wake up on Tuesday and play some good vibing music as you bounce back into reality. We’re not letting this Monday pass on by. Let’s dig into the bad takes, missed calls, and the players who put up big numbers!

Jay Bilas With The Coldest Take Of The Year

We’re just going to thank Awful Announcing’s Twitter for putting this together, and all you need to know is Jay Bilas wants to give college kids citations for storming the court. Maybe they could roll that into their student loans?

Can we all just be thankful that Richard Jefferson will say whatever he wants whenever he wants?

NBA Refs Missed Call > Jay Bilas Cold Take

👋Hi! I’m a Knicks fan, and even as a fan, I can tell you that Detroit Pistons should’ve won last night’s game. If you missed the end of this game, it was a wild final 25 seconds where the Knicks got a 2nd chance to score the game-winning shot after Donte DiVincenzo laid out an excellent form tackle and caused a fumble.

Dang, I forgot this was basketball! After the DiVincenzo “non-foul”, the Knicks got the ball back, and Josh Hart scored on and 1, which also shouldn’t have been called a foul.

Pistons players and coach Monty Williams were pretty upset by the missed calls, and to make matters worse, the referees admitted they missed the calls after the game!

College Basketball Shakeup

The newest college basketball rankings came out, and Houston has shaken things up a bit! Houston had two ranked wins last week, including one against Iowa State, which was ranked #6 in the nation. That win helped them move to #1 and keep Purdue behind them. Here are the newest top 10 rankings. No teams moved in or out of the top 10; only their ranks have readjusted.

North Carolina Gets Epic Performance From RJ Davis

🏀 RJ Davis scored a career-high and a Dean Dome record 42 points last night against Miami. The Tar Heels would beat the Hurricanes 75-71, and yes, that means Davis scored more than half of his team’s points. Davis hit 7 3-pointers, 7 field goals, and 7 free throws to get his 42.

Could We See A Runningback Strike?

Hear me out. The salary cap is increasing by $30 million. We’ve got three big names that we expected to be franchise-tagged, and it looks like that’s not happening. Josh Jacobs from the Raiders, Saquon Barkley from the Giants, and Tony Pollard from the Cowboys… To tag these guys, it would cost $12 million +.

Here’s the problem for the RBs. There are a ton of dudes hitting free agency this year, which means there could be more supply than demand, which could ultimately bring down the price for a runningback. If you remember, last year, RBs were holding Zoom calls to discuss the fact they felt they were being underpaid. Other free agents include D'Andre Swift, AJ Dillon, Devin Singletary, Zack Moss, J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards, Ezekiel Elliott, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

Are teams going to try to get one of these guys for as cheap as possible? If the players want 8-digit deals, I think there’s going to have to be some joint resistance where guys don’t take the first deal that comes to them, no matter how good the $$ looks.
