The Cowboys are signing who?
Hey hey! It’s the middle of the day on a Monday and you probably know the scores to your favorite teams game, IF they even made the playoffs. Sick burn… I know!
We’re going to look at the big news from each sport and then get you out of here, real fast.
Vamos, mucho rapido!
NBA
🏀 The Minnesota Timberwolves swept the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the playoffs. Anthony Edwards had a huge game to close out the series as he scored 40 points, including 31 in the 2nd half. Of course, we find out after the season is over for the Suns that Kevin Durant had a problem with the offense the entire year. What can anyone possibly do to make KD happy?
p.s. Devin Booker scored 49 for the Suns last night.
p.p.s This is the Timberwolves’ first playoff sereies win in 20 years.
p.p.p.s Timberwolves HC Chris Finch may have suffered a torn patellar tendon last night after Mike Conley collided with him on the sidelines.
🏀 The New York Knicks got a huge road win against Philly yesterday and now lead their first-round series 3-1 with game 5 heading back to Madison Square Garden. Jalen Brunson scored 47 points, and this game was down to rebounds. The Knicks out-rebounded the Sixers 52-42, and the Knicks also had six more offensive rebounds than the Sixers, which was just about the difference maker in the game as the Knicks won 97-92.
🏀 The Clippers beat the Mavericks to even up the series, but Kawhi Leonard’s knee inflammation is back. He missed game 4, and there’s no timetable for when he’ll be able to return to the playoffs. The Clippers almost blew a 31-point lead last night but eked out (is that how you spell that?) a 116-111 win.
🗼 Viktor Wembanyama will return to France next season as the San Antonio Spurs will face the Indiana Pacers in two games in Paris. The matchups are set for Jan 23 and Jan 25.
NHL
🏒 The New York Rangers are the first to sweep in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as they beat the Washington Capitals in game 4 in D.C. last night. The Rangers kept Alex Ovechkin from scoring a single point in a playoff series for the first time ever. The Rangers will get a few extra days of rest while they wait to face their next opponent, which will either be the Carolina Hurricanes or the NY Islanders. The ‘Canes are currently up 3-1 against the Isles in their first-round series.
🏒 The Colorado Avalanche have a 3-1 series lead over the Winnipeg Jets. The Avs dominated the Jets yesterday and won 5-1. Valeri Nichushkin had a hattrick for Colorado last night.
🏒The Edmonton Oilers are close to eliminating the LA Kings. The Oilers got a 1-0 win with the lone goal coming in the middle of the 2nd by Evan Bouchard, who was assisted by Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid. Stuart Skinner made 33 saves in net for the Oilers.
MLB
🙌 Thank goodness to Major League Baseball for making a change. A change on what? They are finally modifying the new uniforms after loads of complaints from players where the uniforms have mismatched lettering between players, mismatched colors for the tops and bottoms, see-through pants, and the Jerseys are collecting way too much sweat. The only problem is the changes won’t take place until 2025!
⚾️ The NY Yankees put up big numbers this weekend. On Sunday, they beat the Milwaukee Brewers 15-5, just a day after beating them 15-3 on Saturday. This made them the first team in 17 years to score 15 runs in back-to-back games.
NFL
🏈 Texans WR, Tank Dell was released from the hospital after he suffered a minor gunshot wound in Florida. Dell was in a crowd of people at a venue just outside of Orlando where a teen started shooting, injuring more than 10 people.
🏈After making zero free agency moves and not drafting many offensive weapons, the Dallas Cowboys have decided to sign Zeke Elliott to a 1-year, $3 million deal. The Cowboys desperately needed an RB after losing Tony Pollard and did not draft anyone. What A Move!
🏈 Tom Brady likely isn’t making a return to the Patriots, so the Patriots handed out their 2nd biggest payday to a player ever(Tom’s being the first). The Pats extended D-lineman Christian Barmore to a 4-year deal worth $92 million. This will make Barmore a Patriot until 2028, and $42 million of the deal is guaranteed.
PGA Tour
⛳️ With no Scottie Scheffler playing on tour this weekend, that opened the door for someone else to win. There were two lucky individuals because the Zurich Classic was a team event.
So, who were the lucky winners? Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry were!
This was Rory’s first time playing in the Zurich Classic and Shane Lowry’s fifth. This was Rory’s 25th career victory on the PGA Tour and Lowry’s third. Surely, both players will be more than pleased with the 400 FedEx Cup Points that they get as they’re practically locked into the end-of-season playoff.
These guys played together during the Ryder Cup and had such a great time they wanted to run it back this week. You can tell they had fun as both smiled and laughed during their post-win interview.
"Anytime this man wants to partner with me I'll be happy to do so." 😂
