Diamondbacks Reach 2nd Ever World Series

Good Morning! We’ve got lots to dig through with the World Series matchup now set, the NBA launched its regular season last night, and we’ve still got NFL talk.

Let’s get started.

World Series Matchup Is Set

The Arizona Diamondbacks are the improbable champions of the National League after defeating the reigning NL champions, The Philadelphia Phillies, in game 7 last night.

The D-Backs defeated the Phillies 4-2 after Arizona shut down the Phillies stars and their bats. Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, and Bryce Harper went a combined 1 for 11 with Schwarber hitting a double in the 5th.

The D-Backs went through 6 pitchers, using Brandon Pfaadt for the first 4 innings where he gave up the 2 runs. The bullpen would throw a 1 hitter and shutout in the next 5 innings.

Diamondbacks 23-year-old rookie Corbin Carroll was the star of the show last night as he went 3 for 4, scored twice, had 2 RBIs, and 2 stolen bases.

The Diamondbacks were super long shots at 125 to 1 odds to make the World Series at the beginning of the season. They’ll be facing the Texas Rangers who were 50 to 1 odds. Both teams were wild card teams.

Wild Stat: Last night’s game 7 was the Phillies’ first-ever game 7 in the history of the franchise. YES, IT WAS THE PHILLIES FIRST EVER GAME 7 SINCE 1883.

It’s also the Diamondbacks second game 7 since they joined the league in 1998.

NBA Opening Night

LA Lakers (0-1) 107 | Denver (1-0) 119

🏆️ The Denver Nuggets dropped their 2022-2023 NBA Championship banner last night and their effort to defend the title has begun. The Nuggets practically picked up right where they left off.

🏀 Nikola Jokic had his first triple-double of the season scoring 29 points, grabbing 13 boards, and he had 11 assists.

🏀 Jamal Murray also scored 21 points

⌛️ LeBron James had his time limited on the court last night. He only played 29 minutes but still scored 21 points on the opening night of his 21st season in the NBA

Phoenix (1-0) 108 | Golden State (0-1) 104

👀 Many were curious what this matchup would be like with KD now playing for the Suns and Chris Paul now being on the Warriors. The fans in San Francisco gave both Kevin Durant and Chris Paul a warm welcome and both had decent opening night games.

📈 The Warriors relied on Paul more than expected and Paul would finish 4 of 15 with 14 points and 9 assists. Steph Curry would finish with 27 points and was 4 of 14 on 3-pointers.

📉KD shot 32% from the field and scored 18 points. There is nothing to be alarmed with yet as he’ll continue to get in rhythm with some new teammates.

👀 Devin Booker was the playmaker last night, scoring 32 points and making some key shots late in the 4th quarter.

Waiver Wire Wednesday

Let’s cover some of the injuries heading into week 8 and any other roster changes you might expect.

QBs

🏈Deshaun Watson is day-to-day and his MRI came back showing no damage to his throwing shoulder. P.J. Walker could still get the start against the Seahawks this weekend.

🏈Jalen Hurts says his knee is fine after clearly experiencing some discomfort on Sunday night.

🏈 Ryan Tannehill is likely out this week and Will Levis may get the start but that shouldn’t impact your fantasy roster

🏈 Daniel Jones is feeling better and is looking to play at home this week against the Jets

RBs

🏈Falcons RB apparently did not have an injury on Sunday and it was reported he was not feeling great. Expect him to get more carries this week.

🏈David Montgomery is still questionable for the Lions. Jahmyr Gibbs got lots of touches last week and you can probably expect the same this week against the Raiders. If you need an RB for another week or two, Gibbs could be your dude.

🏈 Browns RB Jerome Ford is expected to miss one or two weeks with an ankle sprain. Expect Kareem Hunt to pick up the slack

WRs + TEs

🏈 The Bills are down two TEs right now. Dawson Know is undergoing wrist surgery and Quintin Morris is questionable. Expected Dalton Kincaid to get more action.

🏈 Zach Ertz is on the IR with a quad injury, the Cardinals stink so you don’t need to replace him

🏈Bucs WR Chris Godwin has been limited in practice. He played the full game Sunday so you can likely expect him to play tomorrow night on TNF.

🏈Dolphins receiver Jaylen Waddle was playing through a back injury on Sunday night. He’s expected to be a full go this weekend

🏈Deebo Samuel has a hairline fracture in his shoulder and will be out through the bye week. Don’t expect to see him back until November 12.

🏈DK Metcalf missed his first game ever in week 7. He might practice today and we’ll monitor it. If he doesn’t play this weekend Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Jaek Bobo could be good pickups, but they’ll be less useful once DK returns.
