The Eagles Fly High

+ The Bengals Just Outrun A Disaster

Good Morning! We hope you had fun with another double dose of Monday Night Football. We’ll cover those, and talk some college football and MLB.

Let’s jump right into it.

Monday Night Football

Philadelphia Eagles at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

I guess we can’t play football without Kelce/Swift talk, but Monday was no different than Sunday..

Okay, it was a little different.

We had Travis Kelce, the center for the Eagles leading the way for RB D’Andre Swift in what would result in an Eagles 25-11 win. Swift had 16 carries for 130 yards. Jalen Hurts had an okay day in the pocket as he completed 23 of his 37 pass attempts for 277 yards and 1 TD and threw 2 INTs. The stout O-line kept him safe all day and only gave up 1 sack.

Back to those interceptions though. One was definitely a bad throw and the other was a great play by the Bucs defense. The one that was a great play worked out in the end though because the Bucs intercepted it at their own 1-yard and the first play on offense for Tampa resulted in a safety. So it was kind of a two-point play for Hurts?

Tampa Bay’s offense was practically non-existent except for one series in the 4th quarter where Baker Mayfield connected with Mike Evans for a 1 yard TD pass. The Bucs had only 187 yards of total offense on the night.

LA Rams at Cincinnati Bengals

The best ability is availability and Joe Burrow surprised us all and made sure here could give it a go on Monday Night. Burrow shook off his calf strain(and got continuous treatment on the sideline all night) in order to help his team get the first win of the season and not drop to a 0-3 record. The Bengals battled all night with the Rams and Cincy would come out on top 19-16.

Burrow wouldn’t throw a TD but he did complete 26 of 49 passes(not great) for 259 yards. Ja’Marr Chase had 12 receptions for 141 yards. Burrow would also throw one INT and the Bengals had limited output on the ground with Joe Mixon rushing for 65 yards on 19 carries. Mixon would bust into the endzone for the lone score for the Bengals.

Special teams and defense would be the difference maker for the Bengals. Evan McPherson would hit 4 out of 5 field goals and Logan Wilson picked off Matt Stafford twice.

Matt Stafford made some nice throws for the Rams which shows you he’s still got the talent but he doesn’t always have the time to throw. The Rams gave up 6 sacks and some were in crucial moments. Puka Nacua continues his awesome rookie year with 5 catches for 72 yards but you can tell this offense is still missing Cooper Kupp.

MLB Update

There’s been some action in the MLB but we’ve been pretty focused on football the last few days. Let’s do some rapid-fire work and get you caught up.

Do we have teams in the playoffs?

Yup!

The Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays have clinched playoffs but the AL East division will come down to the final stretch.

The Minnesota Twins have clinched the AL Central.

The AL West is still up for grabs as the Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, and Seattle Mariners are all within 4 games of each other.

The Braves have clinched the NL East, but you already knew that!

The Milwaukee Brewers are in the playoffs but still need to hold off the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds to clinch the NL Central

The LA Dodgers have clinched the NL West.

What’s going on in the wild card race?

In the American League, Tampa Bay is in for the first wild card if they can’t jump ahead of the Orioles. The next two spots will be decided between the Blue Jays, Astros, and the Mariners, which really comes down to how the AL Central finishes out.

In the National League is a bit of a tighter fight. The Philadelphia Phillies should be a lock. The next two spots will be a battle to the end between the Diamondbacks, Cubs, Marlins, Reds, SF Giants, and SD Padres as there are only 5.5 games separating all of those teams.

We’ll keep you up to date on the playoff races, season leaders, and we’ll be sure to share the inevitable news of coaches getting canned.

That’s all for today. Tomorrow we’ll discuss injuries in the NFL, the Ryder Cup, and whatever else the sports world send our way.

Have a day!
