Is There Enough Room on the Scoreboard?

Good Morning and welcome to the weekend. This is the Daily Breakroom. We’re here to drop some sports knowledge like the Kings and Clippers drop points.

Here’s what we got today

🏀 NBA Scores and News

🏈 Coaches Returning “Home”

⚾️ MLB Rule Change

Buckets, Buckets, Buckets

The Los Angeles Clippers hosted the Sacramento Kings last night in a matchup that went into double OT. The Clippers fell to the Kings 176-175. This is the 2nd highest scoring game in NBA history. Russell Westbrook had 17 points and 14 assists in his Clippers debut. Top scorers from the game include LA’s Kawhi Leonard w/ 44 and Paul George w/ 34. Sacramento’s leading scorers were Malik Monk w/ 45 and De’Aaron Fox with 42.

Other tops scorers on Friday night who didn’t play extra minutes include Julius Randle and Klay Thompson. Randle had 46 points for the New York Knicks in a 115-109 win over Washington. Klay Thompson had 42 in a 116-101 win over Houston.

In other news, NBA star, Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, left the game with a knee injury last night. The Bucks defeated the Miami Heat 128-99. Giannis will be day to day. Hopefully he makes a quick recovery as he just returned from a wrist injury.

NFL Coaches Returning Home

The Denver Broncos have hired Vance Joseph as their defensive coordinator. Vance is returning home as he was the head coach of the Broncos for two season in 2017 and 2018.

In a returning home kind of way, The Kansas City Chiefs have found a replacement for ex-OC Eric Bieniemy, who went to the Washington Commanders. The Chiefs are promoting QB coach and offensive assistant, Matt Nagy, to the OC spot. Nagy was the OC for the Chiefs for two seasons in 2016 and 2017 before leaving to be the head coach for the Chicago Bears.

Gotta love the NFL coaching carousel! 🎠

Shot Clock in Baseball

Yes,, you read that right. There is now a pitcher/batters clock in the MLB. A new rule has been introduced to keep up pace of play. Here’s how it works

  • Pitchers will have 15 seconds to throw their pitch with bases empty

  • Pitcher have 20 seconds to throw with with a runner on base

  • Batters must be in the box and ready to go with 8 seconds left on the clock

  • If a pitcher does not throw before the clock expires, it’s an automatic ball

  • If the batter is not ready with 8 seconds remaining, it’s an automatic strike

Check out Manny Machado being issued a strike for violating the new rule.

Bonus Points

Seeing as we started off talking about a lot of points being scored, we’ll throw in a bonus. The other day we mentioned Edmonton Oilers star center, Connor McDavid for being the 5th fastest player to reach 800 career points. He also just set a new career high for goals in a season by putting this goal line snipe in the back of the net for his 45th of the season. The Oilers still have 23 games left and you can expect his personal single season goal record to grow.

Enjoy your Saturday!
