That Escalated Quickly

Good Morning, we hope you are enjoying your holiday weekend. No one needs a long read today, so let’s dig into the top story, #5 LSU vs #8 FSU, and then let’s rapid-fire through the rest of the stories.

LSU Collapses

The No. 8 Florida State Seminoles delivered an impressive performance, defeating the No. 5 LSU Tigers 45-24 in Orlando. After going into halftime down 3 points (20-17) Florida State dominated the second half, scoring 31 consecutive points.

It was a story of transfers for FSU. Keon Coleman, a transfer from Michigan State, played a pivotal role with three touchdown catches, totaling 122 receiving yards. Coleman's third touchdown occurred early in the fourth quarter after an interception by Renardo Green. Jaheim Bell, a transfer from South Carolina, sealed the win with a 44-yard catch-and-run touchdown and a late-game touchdown, turning the game into a blowout.

QB, Jordan Travis was 23-31 and 342 passing yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 INT.

US Open

Men’s Singles (winners of these rounds advance to quarterfinals)
  • Novak Djokovic won his match against Borna Gojo in straight sets

  • Americans Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton all advance out of their matches. Fritz and Tiafoe won in straight sets, and Shelton upset Tommy Paul in 4 total sets.

Women’s Singles(winners of these rounds advanced to quarterfinals)
  • Defending US Open Champ, Iga Swiatek fell to Jelena Ostapenko. Swiatek had trouble on the hard court, something she said she’s been struggling with all year.

  • No. 6 from USA, Coco Gauff defeated Caroline Wozniacki and it took the full 3 sets.

FIBA World Cup: USA Loses A Game, But Still Advances

After being outscored by 19 points in the first quarter the USA went into the half against Lithuania down 54-37. The USA would make a comeback effort but would fall short in their final group-stage matchup.

Team USA had enough wins to get out of the group stage, despite the loss. It’s time for the knockout stages, which basically starts out as quarterfinals. USA will face Italy tomorrow morning at 8:40 am ET.

LAFC vs Inter Miami

Lionel Messi didn’t score in a matchup against last year’s MLS Cup winner but he did provide two assists. Inter Miami won 3-1, even though LAFC had a few scoring opportunities in the opening 15 minutes.

Italian Grand Prix

Wouldn’t you know it, Max Verstappen won again. His Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez came in 2nd just 6 seconds behind him. The Ferrari team finished in 3rd and 4th and the Mercedes team finished in 5th and 6th.

We’ve got a week off and then the races are headed to Singapore and then Japan.
