Ever Find Yourself Down The Reggie Bush Youtube Highlight Wormhole?
Me too!
Good Morning! We’re going to give you a light read in the middle of the week as we’ll be discussing a lot of football, basketball, golf, and even horse racing over the next few days.
Here’s what we got today:
Return the Heisman To Reggie
A’ja Wilson Ties WNBA Record
Harden Gets Fined
Yankees Lose Their 9th Straight
Seahawks Rookie Receiver Out
Return Reggie’s Heisman
Reggie Bush has filed a defamation lawsuit against the NCAA that is based on the NCAA maliciously attacking his character when the NCAA made false and offensive statements in the media, allegedly.
Here’s the quick rundown because we really don’t need all the legal jargon.
In 2005, Reggie Bush dominated college football. Pull up highlights on youtube and quickly lose an hour of your day.
In 2010 the NCAA was vacating USC’s 2005 season because of NCAA sanctions and the NCAA was claiming that USC and Reggie Bush were involved in a pay-to-play scheme.
During this time, Reggie decided to give up his Heisman Trophy instead of having it revoked.
Was he involved in a pay-to-play scheme? No one really knows.
What we do know is two people who weren’t employees of USC or boosters provided Bush and his family with some cash, covered some travel expenses, and provided a rent-free home in San Diego for over a year.
With the NIL rules being implemented in 2021, Bush wanted his name cleared and his Trophy back.
This was the NCAA’s response: "Although college athletes can now receive benefits from their names, images and likenesses through activities like endorsements and appearances, NCAA rules still do not permit pay-for-play type arrangements,”
It’s not super clear, but I guess Bush is suing for that quote?
All I know is we should give Reggie back his trophy because it was an insane year of football for him.
And while it was found that Bush and his family accepted $300k in benefits over his career, it’s estimated that if NIL was allowed during his time at USC, Bush would’ve made $4-$6million a year.
A’ja Wilson Ties WNBA Record
A’ja Wilson became the 2nd player ever in WNBA history to score 53 points in a game. She now shares the 53-point record with Liz Cambage. Wilson’s team, the Las Vegas Aces would defeat the Atlanta Dream 112-100 on Wilson’s record-tying night.
James Harden Fined $100k
The NBA has fined James Harden $100,000 for publicly demanding a trade and saying that he wouldn’t play unless his trade demands were met. The NBA Players Association is filing a grievance against the league. It comes down to an interpretation of the CBA and if Harden violated it.
Yankees Lose 9th Straight
The NY Yankees haven’t won a baseball game since August 11. They’ve lost 9 in a row, which is their worst losing streak since September 1982.
If you’re a Yankees fan you are so done with this year.
If you like anyone but the Yankees, you’re having a blast.
Seahawks Lose Rookie Receiver
Seattle Seahawks rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba will be out for 3-4 weeks after suffering a wrist fracture in the Seahawks preseason matchup against the Cowboys. Smith-Njigba should be a good contributor this year and with week 1 still a few weeks away, he should only miss 1 or 2 games. The question is whether this injury could get aggravated throughout the season. Either way, be on the lookout for defensive backs trying to strip the ball as it looks like it was his left wrist that was fractured.
That’s all for today. We hope you have a special Wednesday
