Happy Cinco de Mayo! This is the Daily Breakroom and we’re here to party it up with you today. We don’t have margaritas or guac, but we do have sports updates.

Here’s what we’re covering today

  • Churchill Downs Investigation

Vamos!

NBA Scores and Schedule

Last Night’s Matchup

Los Angeles Lakers 100

Golden State Warriors 127

  • The big question was whether or not AD could have another all-star showing after his big game 1. His tendency is to regress greatly after a big night. AD finished with 11 points and 7 boards for the Lakers

  • The Lakers were down 11 at the half and the Warriors blew the doors off with a massive 3rd quarter outscoring the Lakers by 19

  • The starting 5 for GS all had double digits, including Klay Thompson who dropped 30 while Steph only put up 20. Gotta give it to Klay when he’s hot!

  • LeBron scored 23 for the Lakers

Tonight’s Matchups

Boston Celtics at Philadelphia 76ers, 7:30pm ET, ESPN

  • Series tied 1-1

Denver Nuggets at Phoenix Suns, 10:00 pm ET, ESPN

  • Denver leads the series 2-0

Stanley Cup Playoffs

Thursday Night Scoreboard

Florida Panthers 3

Toronto Maple Leafs 2

  • The Leafs started strong with 2-0 lead but gave up three unanswered goals and are now down 0-2 in the series

Seattle Kraken 2

Dallas Stars 4

  • Dallas responded with a 4-2 win after dropping a home loss in the series opener

Tonight’s Matchups

New Jersey Devils at Carolina Hurricanes, 8:00 pm ET, TNT

  • Carolina leads 1-0 in series

Churchill Downs Investigation

We’ve got the Kentucky Derby coming out of the gates tomorrow evening and we’ll cover the race tomorrow morning.

Something we think is relevant is there have been four horses at Churchill Downs that have died over a span of 5 days. Two horses trained by Saffie Joseph Jr. collapsed on the track and died and two other horses also died from training or collapse.

There might not be anything malicious at play but this is an unusual thing to have taken place in such a short time period. Saffie Joseph Jr. is considering pulling his horse, Lord Miles, from the Kentucky Derby in fear of repeat events.

The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA) are in contact with the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission and Churchill Downs to investigate and find any contributing factors, whether it be training issues, recovery issues, or possibly even track issues.

That’s all for today. Enjoy your margaritas at happy hour!

Salud!
