Final Four?

More like the Final Five(seeds)!

Today’s Estimated Reading Time: 2 minutes and 51 seconds

Good Morning. This is the Daily Breakroom and we’re here to catch you up on Sunday’s showdowns. We’re sticking with the weekend theme and we’ll be covering college bball.

Men’s Elite 8

The Men’s Elite 8 games finished up on Sunday and the Final Four is set. We have one 4-seed, two 5-seeds, and one 9-seed heading to Houston to close out March Madness.

5 San Diego State vs 6 Creighton

Our first game of the night brought us quite a show. Creighton was playing highly efficient offense most of the game and SDSU was having trouble keeping up. This is a problem we’ve seen for opponents of Creighton. Creighton can be so good from all over the court, especially the mid range, and if your team has a couple of possessions where they aren’t scoring, Creighton can start to run away

That’s exactly what it was looking like as Creighton was up 7 points around the 14 minute mark in the 2nd half. SDSU then outscored Creighton 23-15 the rest of the game.

We also had a crazy last minute of the game. SDSU took the lead around the 7 minute mark and Creighton took some time but was eventually able to tie it up with 30 seconds to go on a stolen SDSU inbound that was a very odd error.

After all this, SDSU had an opportunity at the basket with a few seconds to go and the refs called a pretty soft foul to give SDSU the go ahead free throws. Fans and critics are up in the air as it was one of the softer calls all night. SDSU took the W 57-56.

2 Texas vs 5 Miami

If you’ve made it this far you’ve already read that there’s no 2-seeds in the Final Four, so obviously Texas lost. But how? Well, this is where we talk about anything happening in March. Miami has been hot the last 3 games after starting slow in the first round against Drake. They did come out slow against Texas in the first half and were down 8 at the end of the half. The 2nd half didn’t start much better for Miami as Texas grew the lead to 13 points around the 14 minute mark. Things started to unravel for Texas, who was without their star forward, Dylan Disu.

Miami closed the gap by the eight minute mark, only trailing by 8 at this point. The ‘canes then went on a 13-3 run and grabbed their first lead of the 2nd half at the 4 minute mark. The two teams traded blows for the next 3 minutes, keeping the game tied or with 1. Miami then pulled away in the last minute outscoring Texas 9-2 to win 88-81.

Women’s Elite 8

The Women’s tournament is finishing up their Elite 8 games tonight. 3 seeded LSU and 2 seeded Iowa are already locked in for the final four. We’ll see who the other two teams will be as we’ve got some great looking matchups on ESPN.

1-seed South Carolina takes on 2-seed Maryland at 7:00pm on ESPN

1-seed Virginia Tech takes on 3-seed Ohio State at 9:00pm on ESPN.

That’s all for today. We’ll catch you on the Dell Match Play results tomorrow and we’ll get back to other major sports updates during the week.

Have a great Monday!
