The Final Sunday
Good Morning. We’re keeping this just like every other Sunday, short and sweet because we don’t like to take too much of your weekend time.
Here’s what we got today:
⛳️The Final Round
🏈 College Football Scoreboard
🏈 Quick Trade Talk
⚽️ Messi Debut (yes, you read that right)
Let’s get moving.
The Tour Championship
Viktor Hovland has taken what was a close tournament and turned it into a dominant lead. He started the day tied at the top of the leaderboard with Collin Morikawa and ahead of Scottie Scheffler by two strokes. Hovland quickly took the solo lead and finished a weather-delayed round with a six-shot advantage over the field. Hovland is sitting at 20 under after shooting a 66 in round 3.
Xander Schauffele is in second at 14 under and Collin Morikawa and Keegan Bradley are sharing 3rd place at 13 under. Scottie Scheffler struggled in yesterday’s round and shot a 73. Scheffler is tied for 5th after getting a 10-stroke head start this week.
Hovland and Schauffele tee off at 1:40 pm ET today in the final pairing of the season. You can watch on the Golf Channel at Noon and then switch over to CBS at 1:30 pm ET.
College Football Scoreboard
#13 Notre Dame vs. Navy
Notre Dame showed out in Dublin with a dominant win over Navy. The Fighting Irish defeated Navy 42-3. Sam Hartman was the star of the show as he went 190 for 23, throwing for 251 yards and 4 touchdowns. Notre Dame can easily get off to a 4-0 start before meeting up with Ohio State towards the end of September.
#6 USC vs. San Jose State
Caleb Williams picked right up where left off after winning the Heisman last year. William led USC to a 56-28 win over San Jose State. He completed 18 of his 25 pass attempts for 278 yards and 4 touchdowns.
There’s one problem though….giving up 28 points to San Jose State. That’s not what you’d like to see from the 6th ranked team in that nation. Hopefully, they can clean any defensive issues up before mid-October, when USC starts what could be a tough stretch of their schedule where they play 4 ranked teams in 5 weeks.
Quick Trade Talk
If you haven’t heard, Trey Lance was named the backup to the backup in San Francisco. That’s right, Lance went from a starter last year to now backing up Sam Darnold who is backing up Brock Purdy.
Well, Lance is no longer a 49er. He was traded to the Cowboys for a mid-round draft pick and he will be backing up Dak Prescott.
It’s a tough look for the No. 3 overall pick from the 2021 draft but it’s a good add for the Cowboys after Dak Prescott will likely miss some games from some type of injury this year.
Messi’s Actual Debut
We’ve had lots of Messi talk with him wearing an Inter Miami uniform. There’s just one thing. All those wins didn’t really matter as they weren’t regular season MLS games.
The regular season is back on track in the MLS and Messi came off the bench yesterday in his actual MLS debut. Of course, you couldn’t have a debut without a goal so Messi put one in the back of the net in the 89th minute to help Miami secure a 2-0 win. Miami is officially out of last place in the standings with this win.
Just look at that pass from Messi 🤯👏
