First the Super Bowl, Now Kevin Durant?

Good Morning, This is the Daily Breakroom. No metaphors today, NBA trades have us shocked… literally 🤯

Here’s what we got today:

🏀 Trade deadline Transactions

🏀 Jaylen Brown Injury

Let’s euro step into this one.

Things just got a whole lot hotter in Phoenix

The Super Bowl and the Waste Management Open have arrived in Phoenix for the weekend. But someone else has a plane arriving this weekend too, and this airfare isn’t round trip.

Kevin Durant has been traded to the Phoenix Suns. He is joining forces with Chris Paul and Devin Booker in a swap for Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, and four unprotected first round picks. Nets Forward TJ Warren is also heading to Phoenix as part of the deal along with a 2028 pick swap.

The Super Star experiment has ended in Brooklyn and this should make Phoenix an even greater contender for a NBA Championship.

Shaking up the Western Conference

LeBron is one of the best in the NBA setting up others for 3 pointers. If the Lakers want to make a run at the playoffs, LA needs some help from beyond the arc. They might be getting the help they need from a 3 team, 8 player trade which includes the Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Utah Jazz.

The Lakers are getting PG D’Angelo Russell from the Minnesota Timberwolves, SG Malik Beasley and PF Jarred Vanderbilt from the Utah Jazz. Russell and Beasley both shoot just over 35% from deep.

The Timberwolves will be receiving Utah Jazz PG Mike Conley and SG Nickeil Alexander-Walker along with some picks.

The Jazz receive 3 Lakers players. PG Russell Westbrook, SF Juan Toscano-Anderson, and Center Damian Jones. The Jazz also receive a 2027 Laker first round pick.

Things Are Looking Up in New York

The New York Knicks made some moves before the Thursday deadline by trading Cam Reddish to Portland for Josh Hart and a 2023 pick. Knicks Guards, Svi Mykhailiuk and Ryan Arcidiacono were also shipped off to Portland as part of the deal.

Knicks Guard Jalen Brunson was excited to find out his former college teammate will be reuniting with him in NY.

Unfortunate Blow for Celtics

Celtics remain first in the East by 1.5 games over Milwaukee. Boston defeated the third team in the East in a 106-99 win over the 76ers… but at what cost? During the 2nd quarter last night, Jaylen Brown collided with teammate Jason Tatum’s elbow in a rebounding effort and suffered a facial fracture. He’ll likely be out until the end of the All-Star break.

With all the NBA trade talk, we’ll come back to Super Bowl 57 tomorrow.

Have a great day!
