Florida Panthers Complete Sweep

Make First Stanley Cup Finals Since 1996

Good Morning! This is the Daily Breakroom and we’re like that birdie you hit on hole 18 after shooting a 103. We keep you coming back for more. Let’s jump right into our update.

Stanley Cup Playoffs

Eastern Conference Sweep

Who would be the one to finish the job for the Florida Panthers? Matthew Tkachuk, obviously. Tkachuk snagged his third game-winning goal of this postseason with 4.9 seconds left in game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final to help the Panthers complete the series sweep and return to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1996.

The Panthers completed their first playoff sweep as a franchise with a 4-3 over the Carolina Hurricanes. This will be the franchise’s 2nd Stanley Cup appearance, one that seemed very out of reach when the playoffs started as Florida was an 8th seed that just squeaked into the wild card.

Watch the game-winning goal go down.

Western Conference Finals

The Vegas Golden Knights play game 4 of the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Stars tonight in Dallas at 8:00 pm ET on ESPN. Vegas leads 3-0 and can complete the series sweep tonight.

The Stars will be without their captain, Jamie Benn, for game 4(and game 5 if it happens) as he has been suspended two games by the NHL for cross-checking Vegas’ captain in the head on Tuesday night.

NBA Eastern Conference Finals

Don’t feel like watching hockey tonight? That’s fine. Tune in to TNT at 8:30 pm ET to catch game 5 of the NBA ECF in Boston as the Miami Heat take on the Boston Celtics. The Celts are trying to keep their season alive and the Heat need just one more win to return to the NBA Finals after being a play-in team this season. Heat currently lead 3-1 in the series.

NBA Coaching Update

The Phoenix Suns quickly fired Monty Williams after a disappointing exit in the NBA playoffs with their star-studded roster. The organization isn’t taking its time to find a replacement. They’ve already gotten their list narrowed down and here are some of the names who top the list.

Former NBA head coaches Nick Nurse, Doc Rivers, and Frank Vogel are all under consideration. Sacramento Kings assistant Jordi Fernandez and Suns associate Kevin Young will also interview for the position.

We have a feeling it will be Nurse or Vogel as they’ve recently won NBA Championships but then again, we’re not really sure what the Suns are looking for. The Suns fired Monty and it seemed like he didn’t get a fair shot with his new roster. Monty also was just named coach of the year in 2022 for leading the Suns to a 64-18 for the 2021-2022 season.

We’ll let you know if we hear anything else.

Charles Schwab Challenge

The PGA Championship was one heck of an event last weekend. Difficult golf, resilient play, once in a lifetime finishes, all made for a beautiful championship. We’re back on the PGA Tour with 4 days of golf at the Colonial Country Club in Forth Worth, Texas for the Charles Schwab Challenge.

We have 9 of the top 20 ranked players participating for a shot at their share of the $8.7 million purse.

Guess who else will be there….

Michael Block! Yes, that’s right, the dude the PGA Pro from the PGA Championship who finished tied 15th, played his final round with Rory, and had a hole-in-one. Yea, that guy! He received an invite and he’ll be teeing off at 9:48 am ET.

Check out some other great tee groupings.

Follow along with today’s action on ESPN+ and then on the Golf Channel from 4-7 pm ET.

That’s all for today. Have a great Thursday!
