Four Wild Card Series, Four Sweeps + Thursday Night Football
Today's Estimated Reading Time: 3 Minutes and 2 Seconds
Good Morning, we inch closer to another weekend of football, but it’s still October and that means playoff baseball. We had 4 sweeps completed last night, let’s dig into those, talk a little Thursday Night Football, and we’ll discuss the rest of the lineup for tonight.
A Wild2 Card
It’s not every year you get 4 sweeps in 4 series of the Wild Card round. Let’s go over the game 2 wins, and then we’ll cover what the rest of the playoff looks like.
AL Wild Card
Blue Jays 0 @ Twins 2
The Twins ended another drought yesterday as they haven’t won a playoff series since 2002.
The Blue Jays have lost seven straight postseason games. They also scored just one run in two games, leaving 17 batters on base.
Rangers 7 @ Rays 1
Texas outscored Tampa Bay 11-1 over the 2-game wild card stretch and the Rangers won their first playoff series since 2011.
NL Wild Card
Diamondbacks 5 @ Brewers 2
The Brewers grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the first getting some runners on base and capitalizing quickly.
The Diamondbacks would rally during the 5th and 6th innings, scoring all of their 5 runs during that stretch.
Milwaukees’ best chance at a comeback would come in the 8th inning when they had bases loaded with 1 out but hit into 2 fielder’s choices outs in a row.
Marlins 1 @ Phillies 7
Bryson Stott tooks the door off this game with a grand slam in the 6th inning taking the Phillies lead from 3-0 to 7-0.
Miami would score 1 run in the 9th but it was too little too late.
Division Series
We’ve got 8 teams left and the Division Series starts Saturday. We’ll be talking football that day so let’s cover the matchups now and we’ll get you game times the day of.
ALDS
Minnesota Twins @ Houston Astros
Texas Rangers @ Baltimore Orioles
NLDS
Philadelphia Phillies @ Atlanta Braves (Rematch of last year’s NLDS)
Arizona Diamondbacks @ LA Dodgers
Thursday Night Football
We’ve made it so far with good Thursday Night Football matchups this year. I guess a 4-week streak is all we get. Tonight’s matchup is between a 0-win % team and a 2-2 team.
We’re introducing yourrrrrrr
0-4 Chicago Bears
who are traveling to the 2-2 Washington Commanders!
Game time is set to 8:15 pm ET and you know Jeff Bezos controls Washington D.C. so you already know that the game is going to be on Prime TV.
The latest odds are Washington -6 points and the O/U is 44.5.
The Bears are 0-3-1 ATS this year and Washington is 2-2.
The Commanders have the #27 passing defense in the league and are coming off an overtime game on a short week of prep.
I think the Bears cover this week and the game goes over.
Enjoy!
What Else Is On TV Tonight
It’s not just football and football only, we’ve got a few other leagues we can mix into the lineup tonight, although it’s preseason for a lot of this action.
NCAA Football
Sam Houston @ Liberty, 7 pm ET on CBSSN
Western Kentucky @ Louisiana Tech, 8 pm ET on ESPNU
NHL Preseason
Boston Bruins @ NY Rangers, 7:30 pm ET on TNT
Colorado Avalanche @ Vegas Golden Knights, 10 pm ET on TNT
*There are various games streaming on ESPN+
Golf
Korn Ferry Tour Championship Round 1 @ Victoria National Golf Club, 2 pm ET on Golf Channel
Sanderson Farms Championship @ The Country Club of Jackson, 4 pm ET on Golf Channel
That’s all for today.
Enjoy whatever you’re watching tonight. We’ll catch up with you tomorrow.
