Friday Flights

Happy Friday! This is the Daily Breakroom and today we’re like a brewery and we’re only doing flights. You’ll get a taste of every story but you’re not getting a full 16 ounces.

In and out is the goal.

Let’s go.

NFL

Kind of Wild To Think About

Philip Rivers spent 17 seasons in the NFL, many of them as one of the best QBs in the league. He never played in a Super Bowl.

That could’ve changed last year if the 49ers made the Super Bowl after they had lost starter Trey Lance in week 2, Jimmy Garoppolo in early December, Brocky Purdy in the NFC Championship, and Josh Johnson in the NFC Championship.

That’s right, Rivers was a 49ers contingency guy and if they made the Super Bowl, he was getting the call.

Maybe this year?

Preseason Week 1

Thursday Night Scoreboard

Houston Texas 20

New England Patriots 9

  • Everyone seems worried about C.J. Stroud’s struggles in his opener. Two words. Chill out.

Minnesota Vikings 13

Seattle Seahawks 24

  • Drew Lock threw for 191, 2 TDs, and 1 Int. Could be a great option as the Seahawks’ backup

Luis Severino and Yankees Fans Are On The Same Page

Luis Severino is delivering career lows or should we say careers worst numbers from the mound this year. Since July, he has been extremely bad as he allowed 36 runs in seven outings.

He’s aware of all this and has even said “I’m just having the worst year of my life in baseball”.

Yankees fans agree.

Bryce Harper Is Day-to-Day

Bryce Harper left the game for the Phillies last night in a matchup against the Washington Nationals. Harper is experiencing back spasms and will be day-to-day. The Phillies are currently 2nd in the NL East and the top wild-card team for the NL

Harry Kane On The Move

Tottenham’s striker Harry Kane has agreed to a transfer and will join Bayern Munich in a deal worth up to $131 million. Although mostly all of that transfer money goes to Tottenham, Kane will be signing a 4-year contract with the German club.

We Know, Phil Likes To Gamble

There’s all this news coming out about Phil Mickelson’s gambling problem from a decade ago.

He’s made over a billion dollars worth of bets and has had gambling losses up to $100 million.

There’s even one story that he made a $400k bet on the 2012 Ryder Cup that Phil was playing in.

I don’t understand why everyone gets so upset by this. Why do people get mad that he bet on himself and his team in a sport where no one is playing defense against you?

I get it. You can’t have refs betting on games. No duh.

I even get that in a sport like football, you can’t have players betting on their teams.

  1. It’s too much to manage and if one guy does decide to make a bet against his team, it’s going to cause chaos.

  2. If you have information the public doesn’t have, it’s unfair.

  3. If the team you’re playing against is out of the playoff race or something, you could potentially have some collusion on the field where a player may tell an opponent he’ll pay them a % if they let x,y, or z happen.

But golf is so much different. You’re betting on golf when you take your first swing as an amateur. If you think Phil is only making bets with a bookie, that’s silly. During that Ryder Cup, he’s definitely making big bets against the European guys. Hell, he probably made bets against his own teammates. It’s what you do in golf.

Phil says he never bet on the Ryder Cup but there are always multiple sides to a story. Either way, I don’t think it really matters.

#Rantover

That’s all for today. Enjoy them happy hours.

Cheers!
