The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly... The Very Very Ugly
Good Morning and Happy Monday. If this was 10 years ago and the NFL was a pair of sneakers, we’d have 15-year-olds in high school running around, pointing and screaming “WHAT ARE THOSE!” because we had some ugly games yesterday.
NFL Sunday Recap
Week 10 isn’t over, we’ve still got a Monday night matchup between the Broncos and the Bills, but I don’t think tonight is going to solve our problem of finding out who the serious Super Bowl Contenders are.
Before we dig through some games, if you want to see the full scoreboard, click here.
We’ll do little one-liners for the ugly games and then finish up with some more deetz around the other games.
🏈 The Colts beat the Pats 10-6 in an ugly game in Germany. Bill Belichick had to replace Mac Jones with Bailey Zappe and nothing changed. Gardner Minshew continues to keep the Colts alive this year.
🏈The Titans lost to the Bucs 20-6 and while Baker looked decent for Tampa Bay, Will Levis looked like a rookie in his 3rd start for the Titans. It wasn’t all Levis’s fault as Tennesse struggled to protect him in the pocket and struggled to get things moving on the ground.
🏈The Cardinals beat the Falcons 25-23 with Kyler Murray returning as the Cardinals starting QB. Murray was 19/32 for 249 yards and threw a pick but he did help on the ground with 33 rushing yards and a rushing TD.
🤮 Sunday night’s matchup was lackluster. We could’ve canceled the game and just had the kickers do field goals from 45 yards out, penalty-shot style. The Jets offense didn’t score a TD and Greg Zuerlein went 4/4 on FGs. Daniel Carlson went 3/3 on FGs and Aidan O’Connell threw a TD pass to TE Michael Mayer in the 4th quarter to give the Raiders the lead and eventually the win.
On to the rest of the games.
Houston Texans (5-4) 30 | Cincinnati Bengals (5-4) 27
👀 Although Texans rookie QB CJ Stroud didn’t have 5 touchdowns like last week, he outplayed Joe Burrow on his home turf. Stroud threw 1 TD and 1 INT and was 23/39 for 356 yards. It opened the door for Devin Singletary to rush for 150 yards on 30 carries and Texas would win on a game-ending field goal.
❤️🩹 The Bengals are 5-4 and are at the bottom of the AFC North, but they aren’t out of the playoff race yet. They’ve struggled with injuries on offense this year and didn’t have Tee Higgins yesterday. Still, they’ve got to find a way to come out on top as the AFC North is filled with good football teams.
New Orleans Saints (5-5) 19 | Minnesota Vikings (6-4) 27
🥼 The Josh Dobbs experiment continues. Just a little over a week after being traded to the Vikings, Dobbs got his first start with the team and completed 23 of 34 passes for 268 yards and a TD. Dobbs also did some work on the ground, scoring a TD and rushing for 44 yards.
❤️🩹 Derek Carr left the game with a shoulder injury and possible concussion so that meant it was time for Famous Jameis to jump in at QB for the Saints. Winston reminded us of who he could be as a QB as he threw for 122 yards, 2 touchdowns, and of course, 2 interceptions!
WTF The Saints are still at the top of the NFC South, a perennial incompetent conference.
Green Bay Packers (3-6) 19 | Pittsburgh Steelers (6-3) 23
👀 Let’s be real, you were watching this game and thinking, there’s no way the Steelers do it again, there’s no way… Pittsburgh played Pittsburgh ball and kept it close just long enough for the Steelers to close it out in their normal fashion. The Steelers were down 19-17 with 1 minute to go in the third. They would kick a field go and we’re up 20-17. The Steelers would have one more FG with 5 minutes left to “really seal the deal”. Pittsburgh is 2nd in the AFC North, but are they really a playoff contender? I don’t think so.
San Francisco 49ers (6-3) 34 | Jacksonville Jaguars (6-3) 3
👋 The 49ers REALLY needed a bye week as they were on a 3-game losing streak. It appears they took full advantage and we’re able to hit the reset button.
🐈️ The Jaguars offense didn’t look too fierce against this 49ers front that now has 2 Ohio State rushers. Chase Young and Nick Bosa were in Trevor Lawrence’s face all day. Lawrence finished the day 17/29 for 185 yards, 0 TDs, and 2 picks.
💪 Brock Purdy apparently took a refresher course on his week off as he was 19/26 for 296 yards and 3 TDs. He of course got some help from a rushing game that racked up 147 yards on the day.
Cleveland Browns (6-3) 33 | Baltimore Ravens (7-3) 31
✔️ The Browns got a crucial win that keeps the Ravens and the rest of the AFC North in check. It wasn’t an easy one for the Browns, that’s for sure
👀I’m not sure what’s more surprising from this game, the Ravens blowing a 24-9 lead or Deshaun Watson finishing 20/34 after being 6/20 at the end of the first half. Yes, you’re counting that right, Watson was a perfect 14/14 in the 2nd half for the Browns. A lot of eyes are also on Lamar Jackson as he threw 2 picks yesterday, but 1 was deflected into the air and brought back to the house as a pick-six. Not every QB is perfect and I don't think it’s time to lose your mind if you’re a Ravens fan.
❓️So the Ravens couldn’t finish in the 4th quarter and they couldn’t stop the Browns who would kick the game-winning field goal with 0 seconds left. Does this mean the Ravens are a bust? NOT SO FAST. The Ravens still put up 31 points on a really good Browns’ defense and like many teams in the NFL right now, they had a bad week. The 49ers have had one, the Jags have had one, heck, even the Eagles have had a bad week. The Ravens had a few more weeks before we put them on fraud watch.
Detroit Lions (7-2) 41 | LA Chargers (4-5) 38
👀 We had a Sunday shootout at SoFi Stadium and the Detroit Lions just outlasted the Chargers.
⚙️ The Lions had all gears in motion on offense yesterday with RB David Montgomery back in the lineup after an injury. Montgomery would rush 116 yards including a massive 75-yard TD. Jahmyr Gibbs balanced out the run game with 14 carries for 77 yards and two scores. Jared Goff also looked sharp, completing 22 of his 33 throws for 333 yards and 2 TDs. Amon-Ra St. Brown caught 8 passes for 156 yards and a tuddy.
⚡️The Chargers offense lived up to their potential after a slow start. Justin Herbert was 27/40 for 323 yards, 4 TDs, and 1 INT. Keenan Allen was a stud, catching 11 balls for 175 yards and two scores.
❓️ Not sure if either team got the memo but defense usually isn’t optional.
NY Giants (2-8) 17 | Dallas Cowboys (6-3) 49
🐐 CeeDee Lamb is being a dude at the moment. He caught 11 passes for 151 yards yesterday and if the Cowboys want success on the field, it starts with #88.
👎️ The Giants are just really really bad and it’s only getting worse. They’re beat up on the offensive line and can’t protect any QB. Tommy DeVito was sacked 5 times yesterday, but he did throw 2 TDs. It’s one of the Giants’ most successful days on offense this year. Total yards for the Giants were 172.
Washington Commanders (4-6) 26 | Seattle Seahawks (6-3) 29
🏈 Both QBs had good games in yesterday’s matchup, but Geno Smith made just a few more plays for the Seahawks than Sam Howell did for the Commanders. Howell was 29/44 for 288 and TDs. Smith was 31/47 for 369 and 2 TDs.
🦵 This was truly a back-and-forth effort with multiple lead changes or tie scores but it came down to Seattle having the ball last and hitting a field goal with zeros on the clock to win by 3.
Monday Night Football
Don’t forget about tonight’s Bills vs Broncos matchup.
📺️ Gametime is 8:15 pm ET on ESPN
💰️ The Bills are favored at home at -7 and the O/U is 47.5 Check out this write-up on why the Under might be the best play tonight.
