What happened in Sports on April 2?
Hello!
What’s up, people? Same stuff, different day. Let’s recap what happened yesterday in Sportslandia and what to look forward to today.
Headlines
🏀 After 16 seasons in the NBA and 2 championship rings, Rajon Rondo is calling it a career. Yup, the 38-year-old hasn’t played in the NBA since 2022 and has finally decided it’s time to tie up the shoes and toss them over the powerlines.
🏀 The Iowa vs LSU Women’s Elite 8 set a TV viewership record, probably because no one wanted to actually go to Albany, NY for the game(jk, jk)
⚾️ The NY Yankees had their best start to a season since 1992 after going 5-0. The Yanks beat the Astros 5-2 on Monday but then lost on Tuesday to them 7-2. Only 3 teams remain undefeated in the MLB so far. The Pittsburgh Pirates are 5-0 and the Detroit Tigers and Milwaukee Brewers are 4-0.
🏀 Joel Embiid returned to the court last night with the Philadelphia 76ers after being out for over two months. Embiid played 29 minutes in his return against the OKC Thunder. He scored 24 points, and the Sixers won 109-105.
Highlights
⚾️ Mookie Betts hit his 5th home run of the season last night, and it was his 1500th hit of his career. Betts is leading the league in homers, and we’re just six days into the season!
Home run No. 5 for @mookiebetts!

🏀 Two-time MVP Nikola Jokic and likely Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama faced each other last night in Denver. Jokic was the better center and helped the Nuggets win last night. Jokic scored 42 points and had 16 rebounds. He also made plays like this.

Wemby wasn’t joking around last night, either. He almost had a quadruple-double as he finished with 23 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists, and nine blocks. WTF! and Wemby made plays like this….
WEMBY TIES THE GAME AND THEN DENIES THE SHOT ON THE OTHER END.

🏀 Giannis had a triple double last night against the Washington Wizards but one of the best teams in the East (the Bucks) lost to one of the worst teams in the East (the Wizards).
🏀 Terry Rozier went off for the Miami Heat last night. He scored 34 points and was 8 of 11 from 3. The Heat beat the Knicks 109-99.

Who Should Pay For a Stadium?
Both the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs want nicer amenities for their teams. The Royals want to build a new baseball stadium and a new ballpark district, and the Chiefs want to spend a lot of money renovating Arrowhead Stadium. Owners of both clubs have said they would consider relocation if they can’t get deals done, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. We will have to wait and see what happens, seeing as voters have already rejected a tax increase for the projects.
