Happy Hour Headlines that Taste So Good
Happy Friday! This is the Daily Breakroom. We’re here to give you the low down in sports so you can sound smarter at happy hour.
Here’s what’s going on today:
🏀 UNC is OUT
🏀 KD Injury
🏈OBJ Working Out
⛳️ PGA Tour
That’s enough with acronyms. Let’s get to it.
U. N. C. is O. U. T.
That’s right, spell it with me. The North Carolina Tar Heels have likely burst their bubble on Thursday night with a 68-59 loss to the Virginia Cavaliers. The preseason ranked #1 team and 2022 National Championship runner up, who also returned four starters had a harsh fall from grace. The Tar Heels had opportunities to secure an at large bid with a few end of season matchups and ultimately fell short. Their body of work will not hold up as they don’t have the quad 1 wins that the selection committee will be looking for. Here’s a guide on the quads if you’re looking to dig into the nitty gritty.
KD Injury
We told you we’d keep you updated. KD rolled his ankle in pregame warmups Wednesday night and had an MRI. He’ll miss 2-3 weeks with an ankle sprain. The Suns have some tough matchups coming up in the next few weeks, playing some of the top teams in each conference. Hopefully KD’s won’t impact their playoff position.
Odell Getting Workouts
Odell Beckham Jr., who missed the 2022 season while recovering from his second ACL tear, will be working out for teams today in Arizona. It’s expected that the NY Giants will be in attendance and possibly the Dallas Cowboys. Last year, OBJ visited the Buffalo Bills, Cowboys, and Giants and wasn’t signed as teams didn’t feel comfortable with his recovery progress. He’ll have former Virginia Tech QB, Ryan Willis throwing to him. Willis is currently playing in the USFL.
PGA Tour
If you ever think being a pro golfer is easy, just remember, you’re watching from the couch for a reason. TPC Sawgrass, where this weeks The Players Championship is being hosted, ate up some of the world’s best golfers yesterday.
We mentioned the course doesn’t favor anyone’s game and that certainly showed. Shots that us amateurs would be running happy circles around our friends if we hit were taking wild bounces, ending up in bunkers, or rolling off of greens straight into the ponds. We’d be walking out of TPC Sawgrass with a 150 on the scorecard.
Of course, it wasn’t all bad. Chad Ramey got a grip of the course and shot a phenomenal 64 and has a 1 shot lead over Collin Morikawa.
We even had an ace on 17!

Extra, Extra, Read All About It
We figured we’d throw you a bone with two scores.
In the NBA, the Sacramento Kings(2nd in West) defeated the the NY Knicks (5th in East) 122-117. It was a close matchup, particularly during the 2nd half. King’s De’Aaron Fox was a big part of a 4th quarter hold off of the Knicks as he scored 15 of his 23 points in the 4th.
In the NHL, the Boston Bruins(1st in Atlantic) had their 10 game winning streak snapped by the Edmonton Oilers(4th in Pacific). The B’s lost 3-2. The Bruins should have no problem recovering as they take on the Detroit Red Wings(7th in Atlantic) on Saturday and again on Sunday, in back to back matchups.
That’s all for today. Have a great Friday and enjoy happy hour!
Cheers from the Daily Breakroom Team
