Huskies Roll In Houston

The UCONN Huskies became the 6th program in college basketball history to win 5 national championships last night. What’s even more impressive is they’ve completed this feat in only 24 years since winning their first.

UCONN started off strong in last night’s title matchup against the San Diego State Aztecs, going into the locker room at the half with a 12 point lead. The 2nd half started a little slower for the Huskies. I’m not sure many people were as worried UCONN would lose as they were about the over not hitting. UCONN kept a decent lead for most of the 2nd half but the Aztecs started making a push with about 8 minutes to go. It was too little, too late.

The Aztecs got the game within 5 at the 5:19 mark. With the score 60-55, UCONN hit the gas. The Huskies went on a 9-0 run over the next 3 minutes and separated themselves from the Aztecs who weren’t creating some magical comeback with 2 minutes to go. UCONN went on to win 76-59.

Adama Sanogo was named the Final Four Most Outstanding Player. He averaged 19.7 points and had himself four double-doubles in the tournament.

It might be warm in Houston, but there will be a warmer welcome in Storrs.

A Real and Fake League Merge

UFC and WWE are merging. That’s right. The league where people get their face bashed in, get choked out, and are made to tap out if they want to keep their elbow in place is joining forces with another company that… fakes all of that?

Well, sort of. WWE has agreed to a deal to be run by Endeavor, which is the company that oversees the UFC. There won’t be any overlap except for cross-promotion, but this does create a $21 billion entertainment company.

While the WWE will no longer be a family owned organization, Vince McMahon will still be the executive chairman.

Messi’s Not Taking A Pay Cut

A few months ago we discussed Lionel Messi’s contract with Paris St.-Germain(PSG) and that he wanted to remain with the team. Messi’s play in the last few months has not been the same as his stellar performance that he just had in the World Cup. PSG is now looking for Messi to take a 25% pay cut is something that 35 year old does not want to do.

Messi is currently open to all offers. You might see him make a return to FC Barcelona or join Saudi Arabia club Al Ittihad. Even the MLS is looking to make an offer as the league wants to get Messi to Inter Miami.

OBJ To The Ravens

With Lamar Jackson publicly requesting a trade, the Baltimore Ravens are still trying to build around their MVP QB. The Ravens have offered a contract to Odell Beckham Jr. who missed all of 2022 recovering from an ACL tear. If OBJ can play like we’ve seen before, he’d be a true #1 WR and a serious weapon for Lamar Jackson, assuming Jackson is a Raven this season.

That’s all for today. We’ll be back tomorrow with some Masters talk.

Have a great Tuesday
