🧑‍🚀 Houston, We Have Tip Off 🏀

We have arrived in Houston for the Men’s Final Four. This may seem like there are some dull matchups without top seeds in the mix but these are going to be some competitive games with a ton on the line for all the schools.

Here’s why.

  1. UCONN is looking for their 5th title since winning their first in 1999

  2. FAU could have a shot at the title and this year was the first time they’ve won a tourney game

  3. Miami is looking to show they’ve been a serious basketball destination for a while and this first title would prove it

  4. Who’d ever think San Diego State would be in the final four?

Here’s the matchups and the odds.

5 San Diego State vs 9 Florida Atlantic @ 6:09pm on CBS

4 UCONN vs 5 Miami @ 8:49pm on CBS

Women’s Final Four

The Women’s Final Four was played last night in Dallas and we got ourselves some upsets!

Let’s start with overall #1 seed

1 South Carolina Gamecocks vs 2 Iowa Hawkeyes

The Gamecocks were no match for Iowa’s Caitlin Clark who set a semifinal record scoring 41 points for the Hawkeyes. She also hit 5 threes in her historic night as Iowa upset South Carolina 77-73. The junior guard is the first women’s player to score back to back 40 point games in the tournament. Iowa’s win over Gamecocks ended South Carolina’s 42 game win streak and this will be the Hawkeyes first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament Championship game.

1 Virginia Tech Hokies vs 3 LSU Tigers

LSU came out strong in this game led by 3 at the end of the 1st period. LSU couldn’t hold their lead for too long as Virginia Tech started getting more control of the game. By the end of the 1st half, Va Tech took back the lead and was up 2. It looked like the game was slipping out of LSU’s hands at the end of the 3rd with LSU now down by 9. LSU went on a 15-0 scoring run over a 5 minute span that happened at the worst time for Virginia Tech. Tech didn’t score a bucket from the 7:52 until 2 minutes were left in the game. By then, the damage was done and LSU had a 10 point lead and Va Tech was not catching up. LSU will advanced to the finals with the 79-72 win.

NBA Playoffs

Here’s a few things to know about the NBA Playoffs race

  • The Knicks can clinch a playoff spot with 1 more win over the next 5 games or if the Miami Heat lose 1 out of the next 5.

  • The Brooklyn Nets can secure a spot if they can win 3 of the next 5. Lucky for them, 4 of the next 5 are home games. They have the tie-breaker with the Heat if it comes down to that

  • The Western Conference is still messy with teams seeded 4-12 are still only 6 games apart

  • The Lakers have a real chance of making the actual playoffs as their next 5 games only come with 1 real test against Phoenix. They do have a matchup against the Clippers

  • Clippers are going to be fighting to stay out of the play-in tournament. The Clippers have 4 games left and the only easy team to should be Portland. New Orleans is a tough out as they desperately need wins to stay in the play in race. The Clippers are without Paul George for likely another 2 weeks

Enjoy the games tonight!

Cheers
