What Do Jeff Bezos and Taylor Swift Have In Common?
Today's Estimated Reading Time: 3 Minutes and 53 Seconds
Happy Thursday,
We’re very close to the weekend, where we’ve got a few marquee college matchups and we’re into week 6 of the NFL. October is where we start to find out who you really are.
We can’t have football on the weekend until we have football on a Thursday. Let’s cover the schedule tonight and then talk some MLB and NHL.
Let’s go.
Thursday Night Football
NFL
The 1-4 Denver Broncos are traveling to Arrowhead Stadium to face the 4-1 Kansas City Chiefs tonight. Gametime is set for 8:15 pm ET and will be on Prime Video.
Yup, we already know Jeff Bezos has his hands in this game we love so much. He wants to influence our shopping, our patience for packages arriving, and how we watch football.
And now we can’t even watch football without zooming in on Taylor Swift every 15 seconds(It’s her, hi, she’s the problem, it’s her).
Anyway, I have a theory on why Taylor Swift is good for football, or just good for the guys who watch football but we can cover that later.
Let’s talk about another celebrity who might be less known than Swift but could actually be more annoying…. Russell Wilson.
When asked about this matchup, Wilson said, “The important thing is that we’ve got to create a new history”. What history is he talking about? It’s simple, the Broncos haven’t beaten the Chiefs in any of the 15 previous matchups.
Guess who the QBs were the last time Denver beat the Chiefs. Peyton Manning was under center for the Broncos and Patrick Mahomes was still playing for Texas Tech. Yeah, that was in 2015.
So what’s going on in this matchup? The Chiefs are 10.5-point favorites and the O/U is 47. 10.5 points is a lot in the NFL but I’m not sure it’s too many here.
The Denver offense isn’t the worst in the league, they’re actually just above average when it comes to offensive output. This could be because they play from behind so much and are getting softer coverages. The Denver defense is basically the worst in the league. You don’t really want to see your terrible defense have to play a Chiefs offense that can run and pass, even if the Chiefs don’t have an all-star WR group.
I want to believe that Sean Payton can coach these Broncos up and keep this within 10 points but the Broncos are traveling on a short week, the weather could be rainy and windy in KC and I think the KC offense will be able to get any yards they want tonight. I’ll take the Chiefs -10.5 and the under.
College Football
It ain’t a Thursday without some college ball. Here’s the schedule tonight.
West Virginia @ Houston, 7:00 pm ET on FS1
SMU @ East Carolina, 7:30 pm ET on ESPN
MLB Playoff Update
Diamondbacks vs Dodgers
I’m stunned, the Dodgers are stunned and you might be confused. It seems so unreal that the Dodgers could be swept in the NLDS after winning 100 games this year but it happened.
It seemed so improbable that I actually wrote the Dodgers were up 2-0 in yesterday’s news. The fact is the Arizona Diamondbacks cleaned up the LA Dodgers and Arizona is heading the NLCS after a 4-2 win last night.
Last night’s game was practically lost in one inning when the Arizona Diamondbacks took Lance Lynn deep four times in the 3rd inning.
Quite frankly, the Dodgers pitchers had no answers for the Diamondbacks throughout the 3 games. The Dodgers starting pitchers had an ERA of 25.07 in this series and that ain’t getting it done.
Atlanta vs Philly
The Braves are down a game in their series with the Philadelphia Phillies after losing by an 8-run margin last night. Philadelphia outscored the Braves 10-2 with 6 runs coming in the bottom of the 3rd.
Game 4 is tonight in Philly at 8:07 pm ET and you can watch it on TBS.
Houston Advances
We’re all getting tired of this but the Houston Astros advanced to another ALCS after winning their series 3-1 against the Minnesota Twins. This will be Houston’s 7th straight ALCS
Connor Bedard Scores His First Goal
The Chicago Blackhawks played in back-to-back nights and the #1 overall draft pick recorded back-to-back firsts in the NHL. Connor Bedard recorded his first-ever NHL assist when the Blackhawks opened with a win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night.
Bedard would score his first-ever NHL goal in a loss to the Bruins last night on a wrap-around goal off of a rebound.
By the way, HE JUST TURNED 18 LESS THAN 3 MONTHS AGO!
