Joey Chestnut Defends Title
Good Morning, can you believe it’s already Wednesday?! We hope you had a great 4th of July and that all of your fingers are still with us. While we were all chowing down on burgers, chips, and hopefully some salad, athletes were still out there doing their thing.
Here’s what we got today:
LA Angels Woes
Neymar Fined Big Time
Alcaraz Off to a Hot Start at Wimbledon
MLS at the Rose Bowl
Scrumdiddlydumpcious…the Best for Last
Are the LA Angels In Trouble?
The Angels received news yesterday that Mike Trout didn’t just have a weird feeling in his wrist after hitting a foul ball on Monday, he actually broke a small bone.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Angels had to pull third baseman Anthony Rendon from the Angels’ matchup against the Padres last night after Rendon fouled a ball off of his leg. He left with a shin contusion and his X-Rays were negative
To make matters worse, two-way star Shohei Ohtani had to be pulled from the game after giving up two home runs and having a blister on his throwing hand. This blister has been plaguing Ohtani for a few weeks now. Ohtani isn’t planning on pitching in the All-Star game.
The Angels are 3rd in the AL West and they can’t afford to drop too many games. No one needs an All-Star break more than LA right now.
Neymar Needs to Pay Up
Brazilian soccer star Neymar was fined more than $3.3 million for violating local environmental rules at his house that he is building outside of Rio de Janeiro. The star was fined after having an artificial lake built on the land. The lake looks more like a dope swimming pool but I guess a lake is a lake.
The local authorities told Neymar to not go in the lake but he threw a party and went into the lake and was fined even more money.
In his defense, I don’t think you can build a mansion in Brazil without building your own lake.
Wimbledon
World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz took care of business in just his 3rd ever Wimbledon start. He defeated Jeremy Chardy in straight sets and is trying to find a path to take on Novak Djokovic.
Djokovic is playing his second-round match this morning against Australian Jordan Thompson.
MLS at the Rose Bowl
The LA Galaxy and LAFC had a city rivalry match on the 4th of July at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
This matchup broke the MLS single-game attendance record with 82,110 fans attending the match. The Galaxy won 2-1. What a great setup for this match at a great stadium.
80k+ at the Rose Bowl. 🌹
This is the beautiful game in the US. 🇺🇸

Scrumdiddlydumpcious
Yummy yummy in my tummy. We’d like to think that’s what Joey Chestnut is saying after he won his 16th Mustard Belt.
While Coney Island might be known for its amusement park rides it was the Nathans Hot Dog Eating Contest that was the true roller coaster event yesterday. The weather was not cooperating and there was a lightning delay. Then, for the first time ever the event was canceled.
But then it was uncanceled! Almost two hours after the event was originally scheduled, the competitive eaters took to their spots with extra empty stomachs and started munching. With 10 minutes of announcing from emcee George Shae, the mouths would close. Chestnut would consume 62 dogs for another win.
At the women’s table, Miki Sudo would take down 39.5 dogs and win by a 6-dog margin after some recounting by the judges. During the match, it looked like she was only 1 dog ahead of the competition but after the recount, it was clear she was much farther ahead than originally believed
Both Chestnut and Sudo have already committed to defending their title in 2024.
P.S. Joey Chestnut didn’t eat as many dogs as expected so he said he had room for some beers later. WOW
That’s all for today. Hang in there, the weekend is almost here.
