You Know He Tripped That Dude!

Howdy!

It’s Sunday, but that’s none of our business. What is everyone’s business is that we all lost a damn hour of sleep last night.

Let’s do a quick rapid fire of some Saturday news, a little deep dive into college ball, and then we’ll look at what’s worth watching today!

Let’s go.

NBA Daily Leaders Mixed In w/ Some Scores

🏀 Kevin Durant scored 45 points last night, but the Suns fell to the Celtics 117-107. Jayson Tatum put up 29 for the Celts, and Jaylen Brown also had 27.

🏀 Luka Doncic got himself another triple-double last night against Detroit. Doncic finished with 37 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. The Mavs beat the Pistons 142-124.

🏀 Jamal Murray balled out last night for the Denver Nuggets. Murray dropped 37 in a win. Nikola Jokic added 26 and DID NOT HAVE A TRIPLE DOUBLE.

🏀 Deandre Ayton had himself a night that helped the Portland Trail Blazers get a win over the Toronto Raptors. Ayton had 30 points and 19 rebounds.

NHL Saturday Action

🏒 We had 13 NHL games on yesterday and only 1 went to overtime, which then went to a shootout! The Buffalo Sabers got a shootout win and overcame a 2-0 deficit in Buffalo. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen was the main attraction in Buffalo as he made 30 saves and an additional two saves in the shootout.

🏒 The NJ Devils continue to suffer even after firing their head coach. The Devils would fall at home to the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2

🏒 The Boston Bruins played a team game against the Pittsburgh Penguins last night to get a 5-1 win. Boston had 2 goals from Pavel Zacha, and 3 goals from 3 others

🏒 Vladimir Tarasenko is immediately fitting in with the Florida Panthers. He scored two goals last night to help the Panthers win 5-1 against the Calgary Flames.

🏒 Tampa Bay beat the Philly Flyers 7-0 yesterday and I think someone needs to go check on Flyers coach John Tortorella as he was ejected in the first period.

🏒 The NY Rangers got a 4-0 win against the St. Louis Blues last night. 3 of the 4 goals came from power plays.

🏒 The Vancouver Canucks are atop the Western Conference standings nd the Winnipeg Jets sit in the #3 spot. Apparently, no one told Winnipeg they had a game last night, as they got bulldozed by Vancouver 5-0.

College Basketball Regular Season Wrapping Up

North Carolina Sweeps Duke in ACC Play

🏀 The North Carolina Tar Heels quickly jumped on the throats of the Duke Blue Devils on Duke’s campus last night. If Duke won, they would have a share of the ACC Championship, if UNC won, UNC would win the regular season outright.

From the get-go, it looked like it was a sealed deal for Carolina, as Cormac Ryan was hotter than a Devil’s pitchfork the entire game. Ryan was 6 of 8 from 3-point land, including three quick ones in the beginning that gave the Heels a breakout lead. Ryan ultimately finished 31 points.

Duke trailed by 9 at halftime and came within a point of the lead early in the second half, but Carolina continued to keep a bit of distance and make big plays when needed. Duke did have a better second half, with a lot of help coming from big man Kyle Filipowski, who finished with 23 points, most of which came in the final 20 minutes.

👉️ This is UNC’s first outright ACC Championship since 2017, and get this… between the two matchups this year, Duke only had a lead for 16 total seconds.

That Should Do It For UConn

🏀 The #2 ranked UConn Huskies started out very slow against Providence. Like so slow they were down 15-2 in the first 4 minutes. Head coach for UConn didn’t even call a timeout, the boys just played, and played better. In the final 16 minutes of the first half, UConn outscored Providence 40-9. YES, THE HUSKIES WENT FROM BEING DOWN 15-2 TO HEADING INTO THE LOCKER ROOM UP 42-24.

We don’t need to add much; things were pretty even in the 2nd half. UConn won 74-60. It wasn’t their best work, but it was likely enough to seal them in for a one seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Houston > Kansas

🏀 The #1 team in the nation has been confusing us lately. Close games, coming down to the final seconds, game-winning shots. It leaves you wondering if they’re just getting lucky this year? But then they go out and dominate #14 Kansas. Houston got off to a hot 19-4 start. Things didn’t get better for Kansas; the score at the end of the first half was 40-21. Things still didn’t get better in the 2nd half as Houston outscored Kansas by 11. The final score was 76-46, and Houston is ready for March.

Don’t Forget About Kentucky

🏀 One things for sure when you playing Kentucky… you better be ready to score. Kentucky averages the 2nd most points in the NCAA right now, and every game is a dogfight. In a battle between borders, #15 Kentucky traveled to #4 Tennessee, and UK got the 85-81 upset. We won’t dig into all the details, but here’s what we’ll mention. It was an average-scoring game in the first half. 33-29 in Kentucky’s favor. Both teams score 52 points in the 2nd half! That’s crazy.

Antonio Reeves dropped 27 for Ketncuky and they also got another 27 from Reed Sheppard who came off the bench. Tennessee’s Dalton Knecht continues to shine as he scored 40 last night.

DO NOT COUNT OUT THIS KENTUCKY TEAM…. But also, they might lose in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Big $$ In The NFL

🏈 The KC Chiefs have reached a 5-year deal with Chris Jones, making Jones the highest-paid defensive tackle in the league. Jones will now make close to $32 million a year, which is now more than the Rams’ Aaron Donald.

Arnold Palmer Invitational

We’ve got the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill today. We’ve got a start-studded top 10 that includes Max Homa, Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama, Will Zalatoris, and Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler leads the group, tied with Shane Lowry at -9. Zalatoris and Matsuyama are at -7, and Rory and Homa are at -5. Anyone can make a push to the top today, as this course shows no mercy.

For example, Will Zalatoris looked like he would explode to the top of the leaderboard yesterday after posting a front nine 32. He was then one under through four holes on the back and then had a meltdown and went 4 over on the final five holes. A few tough breaks will get you.

It’s not just the back nine that eats up golfers—the front nine does it, too. Jake Knapp, everyone’s new favorite golfer who was just one in Mexico two weeks ago, shot a 12 on the 6th hole. THAT’S GOLF FOR YA!

So tune in and catch the action. Is the $4 million there for someone to win or for someone to lose?

📺️ The Golf Channel will air the final round at 12:30 p.m. ET, and then coverage will move to NBC at 2:30 p.m. ET.

p.s….. What was the headline about? If you watched the UNC vs. Duke game last night, you know that Kyle Filipowski tripped Harrison Ingram intentionally last night, even though crybaby Filipowski claims he did not. But y’all decide for yourself.
