The LA Chargers Missed Their Bus To The Game

If you looked at the box score from Thursday Night Football, the only explanation that you could come up with after seeing the score is that the Chargers missed the bus. We tried coming up with funny headlines, does lightning strike in a desert? Well, that escalated quickly (insert Ron Burgundy picture). None of them really do this game justice.

Let’s dig through the details of TNF, and talk about some FCS Playoffs and Golf.

Las Vegas Raiders Dominated The Los Angeles Chargers

LA Chargers (5-9) 21 | Las Vegas Raiders (6-8) 63

🤯 49 POINTS. 49 UNANSWERED POINTS. Yes, you’re reading this correctly. The Las Vegas Raiders scored 49 unanswered points last night and had a 49-0 lead in the 3rd quarter. If that’s not crazy enough, it was 42-0 going into halftime. Could it be crazier? Absolutely. The Raiders had a 21-0 lead before 11 minutes had come off of the clock in the first quarter! Could it be any crazier? Definitely. THE RAIDERS LOST TO THE VIKINGS LAST WEEKEND IN A GAME THAT HAD A TOTAL SCORE OF 3-0. VEGAS HAD THE ZERO! Vegas was shut out last weekend and then scored 63 the next week. Mind Blown.

🏃 So what happened? We’ll try to run you through it quickly. The Raiders scored on their first drive of the game, normal stuff. Maybe not normal for the Raiders this year, but still pretty normal in football.

👉️ Chargers then got the ball back and fumbled and the Raiders recovered and only had to go 42 yards for a score. Boom, easy.

👉️ Chargers got the ball back again, and Deja vu hits as the Chargers fumbled… again. The fumble was recovered by the Raiders and again the Raiders only had to go 32 yards for a score.

👉️ Normal football plays would ensue for the next 9 minutes until Vegas punted a ball into Chargers’ territory, LA would fumble the ball and the Raiders would recover and you guessed it…. The Raiders would score on a 14-yard drive. The score is now 28-0.

👉️ We returned to normal football with bad defense from the Chargers and Vegas scored two more times before the half.

👉️ Now you would think the Chargers would make some halftime adjustments and be ready for the 2nd half. THINK AGAIN. The Raiders would score in 9 plays in the opening drive but the Chargers would respond and get a TD on their first drive of the 2nd half.

🥱 This is getting exhausting, but the score is 49-7 at this point. Normal football continues between bad teams.

👀 I know what you’re thinking and yes I kept watching the game. At the beginning of the 4th, the Raiders would have both a scoop and score and a pick 6 from their defense. Now it’s 63-7.

🏁The Chargers would score on their next 2 drives and the checkered flag would fly.

⚡️What’s more shocking than this loss is the fact that Brandon Staley is still the head coach of the LA Chargers this morning.

Enjoy some highlights.

FCS Playoffs

This seems like an appropriate time to capture some of the events in the lower tier of Division 1 football, the FCS division. You might wonder why there is the FBS and the FCS but it all comes down to the FBS teams like Alabama, Oregon, Michigan, etc. are allowed to spend more money on their programs and give out more scholarships than schools like Appalachian State, South Dakota St., etc... The other difference is the FBS has a very different playoff system. That’s changing after this year so we won’t dive into it now.

Back to the FCS. It’s the Football Championship Series and after the regular season finished, 24 teams made the playoffs with 10 automatic bids (conference winners) and 14 at large bids. The top 8 teams got a first-round bye. The FCS division has made it through the first 3 rounds of playoffs and we’re now in the semifinals with two games taking place this weekend.

Tonight
#5 UAlbany @ #1 South Dakota State

📺️ Gametime is 7 pm ET on ESPN2

💰️ SD State is a 21-point favorite in the matchup

👉️ UAlbany has one of the top rushing defenses in the nation but South Dakota State is a dominant FCS team. SDS has a 27-game winning streak and has won 20 straight games at home. The SDS defense leads the nation in scoring defense and total defense. Both teams will need to lean on their QBs to make explosive plays in the passing game to come out on top.

Saturday
North Dakota State @ #2 Montana

📺️ Gameime is 4:30 pm ET on ESPN2

💰️ ND State is favored by 1 point

👉️ This is a matchup we’ve seen before. These teams have met each other 10 times before and ND State leads with a 6-4 record with a Montana. North Dakota’s head coach Matt Entz is resigning at the end of the season and is heading to USC to be an assistant. The ND State offense has a highly ranked rushing game but the real matchups to watch today at the Montana WRs against the ND State secondary. The Montana receivers can all make explosive plays and Junior Bergen is a nasty punt and kick returner. Will special teams make the difference tomorrow?

What does Saturday look like?

👉️ Saturday is when the real action starts. It’s a championship that consists of two-player teams made up of a tour player and a family member who isn’t a touring professional. It’s awesome to see how good some of these kids or older parents are and how much fun they have playing with family. It’s usually a great reminder of how bad everyone else is at golf!
