Abierto Mexico de Golf

The PGA tour teed off the Mexico Open on Thursday at the Vidanta Golf Course in Puerto Vallarta. The tournament features 144 golfers and they are competing for $7.7 million. This long course that measures around 7,400 yards can be a difficult to manage as the wind can really whip as this course is near the Pacific coast.

Austin Smotherman is currently in the lead and 8 under and we’ll see what happens over the next few days.

The Coolest Strikeout Ever?

A 33 year old minor league lifer had a pretty cool moment on Wednesday night. After playing 1,155 minor leagues, Drew Maggi , who plays infield, was called up by the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier this week. He didn’t appear in the first two games for which we dressed but in Wednesday’s matchup against the LA Dodgers, Maggi was called in to pinch hit.

Maggie fouled his first pitch in the at bat and then was called for a pitch clock violation, which is kind of funny because the minors had a full year or the pitch clock before the big league did. Maggi fouled off another ball, took a pitch to get the count to 1-2 and eventually struck out on a slider.

With his family present at the game and getting to see his big moment, Maggie claimed “It was the best strikeout I’ve ever had”

That’s all for today. We’ll be back with scores and some more NFL draft updates tomorrow.

Enjoy them Friday happy hours!
