Late Sunday Edition
Howdy!
We’re sending a late Sunday edition where we’ll cover 3 topics. We’ve got a game 1 result from the Stanley Cup Final, a playoff on the PGA Tour, and an NBA Finals game 2 matchup tonight.
Let’s go
Stanley Cup Finals
The Florida Panthers are remaining calm after they let the Vegas Golden Knights get back into game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals in which the Panthers got a first-period lead from a short-handed goal.
Eric Staal would score a short-handed goal 9 minutes into the first for Florida but Jonathan Marchessault would score for Vegas on a power play 8 minutes later. Vegas would score midway through the 2nd period to take a 2-1 lead but Florida would tie it up at the end of the 2nd with an unassisted goal.
The Golden Knights came out ready to finish the job in the 3rd as they scored 3 goals in the 3rd, including an empty netter to take game 1 with a 5-2 win.
Memorial Tournament
Viktor Hovland emerged as the winner of the 2023 Memorial Tournament after defeating Denny McCarthy in a one-hole playoff. This victory marked Hovland's first PGA Tour win since 2021 and his fourth career victory overall. Hovland has been focused on playing his own game and making better course management decisions, contributing to his victory.
Denny McCarthy had the opportunity to grab his first win on the PGA Tour with a par putt on the 18th green. McCarthy just missed the hole and ended up with a bogey that would lead to the playoff. McCarthy dug himself into “a hole” during the playoff when his approach shot on 18 came up just a few short and rolled back down the false front. It would be a tough up and down to make par and while he had a chance, he just barely missed a put. While McCarthy wouldn’t capture the $3.6 million winner’s share, he’ll still walk away with $2.18 million which is a pretty good payday.
NBA Finals Game 2
The Miami Heat are aiming to recover from their loss against the Denver Nuggets as they face off in Game 2 of the NBA Finals. The Nuggets dominated game 1 with a convincing 104-93 victory and will look to grab another win at home before the series heads to Miami.
Game 2 will be televised on ABC at 8 pm ET.
Enjoy the rest of the day and remember… Don’t let your Mondays ruin your Sundays!
