Let The Chaos Ensue

Wow, wow, wow, what a Saturday for college football. We’ve got 6 schools hoping to get into the College Football Playoff and only 4 spots. We’ve also got a few NFL matchups worth tuning in for, and not just for playoff reasons, some games today could determine who keeps their job.

Let’s go.

Conference Weekend

Pac-12

#3 Washington (13-0) 34 | #5 Oregon (11-2) 31

🤯 3 is the magic number for the Washington Huskies. After a week of talk where Oregon was heavily favored to win the Pac-12 at a neutral site, even though the Ducks lost to Washington by 3 in Seattle, the Huskies were never phased. Michael Penix Jr. and the Washington offense came out firing. Washington got off to a 20-3 lead before Oregon went on a 21-point run to get the 24-20 lead with 1:51 to go in the 3rd quarter. Washington would score twice in the 4th quarter and Oregon would score 1 more time with 2:14 to go and couldn’t get the onside kick. If there were another 5 minutes in the game, Oregon might’ve pulled this one off. It’s probably a good thing Oregon didn’t win as it would’ve created more confusion for the committee.

Big 12

#18 Oklahoma State (9-4) 21 | #7 Texas (12-1) 49

👀 We knew this Oklahoma State defense was shaky, but not this shaky. The Longhorns went to Dallas for a business trip and there was no negotiating with this squad. Quinn Ewers dominated in the first half and finished the game 35/46 with 452 yards, 4 TDs, and 1 INT. The Longhorns bullied their way to 3 more scores on the ground and a collective 198 yards on 40 carries. The Texas defense held the Cowpokes’ talented rushing game to just 31 yards and allowed 250 yards in the air. IF TEXAS DIDN’T EARN A SPOT IN THE CFP THEN JUST GO TO 12 TEAMS THIS YEAR, because that would be the less outrageous thing to do.

SEC

#1 Georgia (12-1) 24 | #8 Alabama (12-1) 27

🙃Well, well, well, how the tables have turned! Alabama upset Georgia in the SEC Championship and ended the Bulldogs’ 29-game win streak. Some people say it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish, and unfortunately, Bama shouldn’t have started with a loss to Texas. If you mess with Bull, you gonna get the Horns! Anyways, Bama won the SEC championship and I think we were all a little surprised as Bama somewhat narrowly escaped a lot of games this season. If you watched the games this season, you know what I’m talking about. I think the CFP committee is going to have to keep the SEC out and I’ll explain why in a bit.

Big 10

#2 Michigan (13-0) 26 | #16 Iowa (10-3) 0

👉️ Was this Michigan’s best game ever played? No way. Is this Iowa defense really freaking good? Hell yes. Michigan held the Iowa offense to 155 total yards and while it seemed like Iowa had a lot of drops, the Michigan D was swarming and closing in on every opportunity. Iowa’s defense kept a powerful Michigan offense to just 213 yards but Michigan’s win was an example of why their one of the best teams in the country. The Wolverines made a few plays on offense and had some big plays on defense and special teams.

ACC

#4 Florida State (13-0) 16 | #14 Louisville (10-3) 6

👉️ We’re not going to cover the stats in this game. Okay, we’ll give you 2 stats. Florida State’s defense held Louisville to 188 total yards and they had 7 sacks on the day. Louisville ran 70 plays, and 20% of the time Florida State took Louisville down for a loss. We’ll repeat, FSU held Louisville to 188 yards and 6 points. Louisville averages 30 points and over 400 yards per game. So… this is why I think Bama is left out of the playoff and Florida State gets in. 1. Bama lost Texas and Texas is going to get in because of that. 2. Football isn’t just what your star QB can do. It’s super unfortunate that FSU lost Jordan Travis, but the ‘Noles got this win with a 3rd string QB. Let’s repeat this again. Florida State lost their QB, beat a talented albeit undisciplined Florida team, and then won their conference championship with a dominant defensive performance, and finished a perfect 13-0. They also scheduled a top-ranked LSU team and whooped them in the first game of the season. If this stuff doesn’t matter, THEN WHY ARE WE PLAYING THE GAMES!

So, who gets in?

Rank them however you want… it’s clear which 4 teams are getting into the playoffs.

The case could be made for Michigan or Washington to be #1. The only options for #3 and #4 are Texas and Florida State. I think it will ultimately look like this.

  1. Michigan

  2. Washington

  3. Texas

  4. Florida State

NFL Sunday

I’ll just let you know this real quick. If you watch zero football except the 4:25 pm ET matchup between the Eagles and 49ers, you’ll probably be okay.

Let’s look at a few of the watchable games for today.

San Francisco 49ers @ Philadelphia Eagles

📺️ 4:25 pm ET on FOX

💰️ The Niners are favored by -2.5 points and the O/U is 46.5

🙏 First off, I need to say thank you to the NFL. These afternoon games that should probably be an SNF matchup are dope. I love finishing an awesome game at 7 pm and not feeling like I need to stay up until midnight to catch every drip of action.

👉️ The Eagles have been escaping upset after upset after upset. They narrowly avoided a loss to the Cowboys, the Bills almost took them down last week and the Chiefs would have too if only the Bills and Chiefs had receivers that could catch a football. The Niners have been rolling since their offense is healthy again and I think this is the week that the Eagles fall. Although in Eagle fashion, they’ll keep it close. I’ll take the Eagles ATS and the over.

Denver Broncos @ Houston Texans

📺️ 1 pm ET on CBS

💰️ Houston is favored by -3.5 points and the O/U is 45.5.

👉️ Denver’s defense has been playing well the last few weeks are turnovers are fueling wins. The Houston offense has been doing a job of limited turnovers with Rookie QB C.J. Stroud protecting the rock while still letting it fly. This could game could determine a wild cards spot a month from now so I think defenses are going to be flying around today. I’ll take the Broncos getting points and the under.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Green Bay Packers

📺️ 8:20 pm ET on NBC

💰️ Chiefs are favored by -6.5 points and the O/U is 41.5

👉️ Jordan Love played some of his best football for the Packers last week facing 2 tough defenses in a row could be a challenge for the Green Bay starter. KC allows the third fewest points in the NFL and while the Packers are in the top 10 for points allowed, they aren’t usually playing Patrick Mahomes. This is game is tied for the lowest total for Kansas City this season. I’ll take KC and the over in this matchup.

Detroit Lions @ New Orleans Saints

📺️ 1 pm ET on FOX

💰️ Detroit is favored by -4.5 and the O/U is 45.5

👉️ The Lions are coming off of a tough divisional loss on Thanksgiving and while Jared Goff isn’t always the best on the road, I think the Lions are ready to come into New Orleans and throw down. The Saints aren’t as good as we thought they’d be this year and the Lions are way better than anyone could’ve imagined. I’ll take the Detroit ATS the spread as they will be regression to the tail.

Bonus Game (just kidding)
LA Chargers @ NE Patriots

📺️ 1 pm ET on CBS. Let’s be real, if you put NFL Redzone on, you likely won’t see much of this game anyway.

👀Okay, I know that no one actually wants to watch this game but here’s the thing. The Chiefs have playoff talent but can’t win a game this year. I think the Patriots are quietly tanking and although I’m not sure Bill Belichick is the guy you want picking your next young QB. Also, Brandon Staley isn’t the guy you want leading the Chargers next year. If Staley doesn’t win this game, is he going to get canned this weekend? The Chargers never fire coaches mid-season but would they make an exception?

💰️ LA is favored by -5 and the O/U is 39.5. You have to the Chargers and the under, right?

That’s all for a Sunday. Hit the grocery, prep those meals, order some pizza & wings, and have a day.

Oh, and remember…..

Don’t let your Mondays ruin your Sundays!
