Lucas Glover Is Here To Chew Bubblegum and Win Golf Tournaments

and he's all out of bubblegum

Good Morning!

Somehow a light Sunday always gives us quite a bit to chat about on a Monday Morning. We got collapses in the 9th inning, an unpredictable win on the PGA Tour, deals being made in Europe, perfection on the basketball court, and a few other things.

Let’s have ourselves a Monday.

Back to Back On The PGA Tour

We’ve said it before, I’ll say it now, and I promise it will be said again.

GOLF IS A FUNNY GAME!

Just a fortnight ago (a fortnight = 2 weeks) Lucas Glover was ranked 112 in the FedEx Cup rankings. With that placement, he wasn’t going to make the FedEx Cup Playoffs, which started with the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Well, Glover defied the odds and won the Wyndham Championship last weekend and that pushed him to 49th in the standings and that was well beyond the mark he needed to hit to get into the playoffs. (the cutoff was the top 70)

Glover exceeded expectations again this weekend when he came out of nowhere on Saturday and found himself grabbing a huge win at the St. Jude Championship. This win is so timely for Glover because a playoff win gets you 4x’s the amount of points and that bumped him from 49th to 4th place in the standings.

Yup, Glover sits just behind John Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, and Rory. Glover will just need to hold on next week at the BMW Championship where the top 50 in FedEx Cup points are battling it out to get to the Tour Championship. If Glover can stick around the top 5 spots, he’ll be getting a decent number of strokes to start with at the championship.

Helluva story for the “old” guy.

Yankees Fall Flat On Their Face

The New York Yankees faced the Miami Marlins in Miami last night. It was looking like the Yankees would easily grab a road win as they were up 7-3 heading into the bottom of the 9th inning. The Yanks would give up 5 runs in the final inning for an 8-3 loss.

The Yankees were leading 7-1 in the sixth inning after Gerrit Cole started the game but couldn’t keep the momentum going.

There are 7 weeks left in the season and the Yanks will miss the playoffs if they don’t get back on the winning track.

PSG Figuring Things Out

Paris St. Germain is figuring things out with superstars Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

PSG has agreed to send Neymar to the Saudi Pro League’s Al Hilal for around $100 million. Neymar will be on a two-year deal with Al Hilal and will have the option to stay for a third year.

With Neymar now gone, the question was what will PSG do with Kylian Mbappe?

Well PSG just reinstated Mbappe and it seems that he may now sign an extension with the team after having some positive conversations with the organization. This could just be an amicable deal as PSG wants Mbappe to sign an extension so they can potentially trade his rights for a massive transfer fee.

Perfection On The Court

Jalen Brunson helped the US Basketball Team defeat the No.1 ranked Spanish National team in an exhibition yesterday as the teams prepare for the FIBA World Cup. Brunson went 9 for 9 from the field for 21 points. The US team shot 67% overall and 56% from 3-point land. The US won 98-88 and they will play their first World Cup game on Aug 26.

Preseason Week 1

I think the best way to present the material is with two main points. Follow along.

Injury Report

  • The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a loss at the linebacker position as Shaun Bradley suffered a season-ending knee injury.

  • New Orleans Saints RB Kendra Miller suffered a knee injury against the Chiefs on Sunday. Miller hurt the same knee he hurt while playing in the Fiesta Bowl this year for TCU. The Saints will be without Alvin Kamara for the first 3 games due to suspension so they can’t really afford to lose more RBs right now.

  • Green Bay Packers backup TE and an important special teamer Tyler Davis is out for the season after tearing his ACL.

Rookie QB Performances

  • Bryce Young threw for 21 yards and completed 4 passes on 6 attempts in his preseason start. He looked pretty decent and made some nice throws but faced quite a bit of pressure. He’ll need the Panther’s O-Line to clean up some protection before week 1.

  • Anthony Richardson went 7/12 on passing for 67 yards. He also threw an INT. Richardson looked very Cam Newton-like with his big frame, athletic moves, and he throws a bullet.

  • CJ Stroud went 2/4 for the Texans throwing for 13 yards and 1 INT. No need to freak out yet. He looks like he’s trying to go through most of his reads and is getting decent protection. Give him 8 games before you call him a bust.

  • Will Levis went 9/14 for 85 yards and 1 INT for the Tennessee Titans and he looked ok. He made pretty good reads and threw to some smart targets but I’d like to see more touch on his balls as he threw a few difficult-to-catch passes when he had receivers wide open.

Have a great start to the week.
