The UConn Huskies are back-to-back champs!

We’ll take a look at their dominant run through the tourney and cover a few more topics!

But First…

The UConn Huskies claimed their 6th national championship in school history, and it was a repeat, something that hasn’t happened in 17 years since Florida did it in 2006/2007.

This wasn’t another ordinary win. Well, maybe for UConn it was. UConn won each of their tournament games by double digits. And we mean like 23.3 points per game double digits. You would think that would change when they play a #1 seed in the title game. NOPE. They beat Purdue by 15!

📋️ I thought UConn’s coach, Dan Hurley, was going to draw up some crazy double schemes to limit Zach Edey, but there’s a reason he’s on the sideline and I’m writing the reports when it comes to basketball, Hurley has the edge on me 😉 . Hurley said screw it, let Edey get his buckets, and we’ll see if Donovan Clingan can stop him. It was 7 foot 4 (Edey) vs 7 foot 2(Clingan)! If you tried to double Edey, it would leave the Purdue shooters open, and death by 3-pointers would be imminent.

👉️ So, Zach Edey scored 37 points, and Clingan actually played solid. He made some good stops, but Clingan also had to worry about being in foul trouble during the game.

🧱 With UConn not doubling Edey, the Purdue 3’s dried up and it was bricks all night long. Purdue took seven 3’s and only hit one of them. That’s 14% and Purdue shoots 40% normally and they normally take about twenty 3’s per game. That’s a huge loss for any offense.

👀 It seems like we’re talking about how UConn limited the Purude offense a lot, and really, this was a defensive win for the Huskies. But their offense wasn’t terrible, either. They had four players score double digits, which is an exact reflection of their year, where they played great team ball throughout its entirety. Tristen Newton scored 20 points, Stephon Castle scored 15, and Cam Spencer and Clingan added 11.

👍️ UConn is now part of an elite group of schools that have won six championships. The other schools with at least six are UCLA (11), Kentucky (8), and North Carolina (6). The best part is that all six for UConn have come in the last 25 years!

💰️UConn better be ready to drop a bag of money on Dan Hurley’s front porch to keep him from getting poached by Kentucky!

Headlines

⚾️ We’re still not sure what’s going on with the Shohei Ohtani gambling scandal, but there is one thing we do now. You can bet on Ohtani to hit some dingers! Ohtani had two doubles and a home run to help the Dodgers beat the Twins 4-2 yesterday, and this is Ohtani’s 3rd home run in 5 games. Keep em coming Sho-time!

📺️ The Women’s National Championship between South Carolina and Iowa drew an average of 18.7 million viewers to their screens on Sunday. Reports say this even peaked at 24 million viewers at one point. This would be the most-watched basketball game in the U.S. in the last five years IN ANY LEAGUE!

💰️ The futures for 2025 are already set for college basketball. UConn is the favorite to 3-peat at +900, and Duke is +1200. The final four is in San Antonio next year so get those tickets booked!

What you need to be watching tonight!

NBA

🏀 The Celtics are playing the Bucks in Milwaukee tonight. Gametime is 7:30 pm, and this will be on TNT. The Bucks are slowly hemorrhaging losses, and Boston is peaking for the playoffs. This could be a preview of what we see late in the playoffs, but more importantly, the Bucks need a win right now.

🏀 The Warriors and Lakers battle it out at 10 pm ET on TNT tonight. The Lakers could win their next three and could escape the play in tournament. The Warriors are looking to secure better seeding in the play-in. We’re practically in the playoffs at this point.

🏀 The Suns face the Clippers at 10 pm ET tonight, and while the Clippers are okay in their playoff position, the Suns could fall into the play-in tournament. This game has real implications for Phoenix tonight, and they still have to play the Clippers again and face Sacramento and Minnesota.

NHL

We’ve got a wild card race in the NHL’s Eastern Conference. We’ve got 4-5 games left, and the 2nd wild card spot is up for grabs between 6 teams that are within 5 points of each other. The Red Wings, Penguins, Capitals, Flyers, Devils, and Sabres are all looking to close the season with wins to sneak into the playoffs.

🏒Lucky for us, the Capitals and Red Wings play at 7 p.m. tonight on ESPN. We’re in the pseudo-postseason now!

🏒The NJ Devils will face the Toronto Maple Leafs at 7 pm tonight, and the Leafs will try to keep the Devils out of the wild card race.

🏒 The Buffalo Sabres also play tonight against the Dallas Stars. The Sabres really can’t afford to tie or lose any of their remaining games.
