The Magic Continues For Cincinnati

Happy Saturday. Let’s get you an uber quick update and send you on your way.

Today we’re discussing:

  • Major League Baseball

  • College World Series

  • An NFL Contract Extension

  • What’s on TV Today

Let’s get to it.

Major League Baseball

The Cincinnati Reds are living up to their name as they remain red hot. Last we counted, they’ve won 12 games in a row.

Last night the Reds had a comeback win against the Atlanta Braves after they were down 5-0 heading into the bottom of the third. How did they pull off the W?

You guessed it.

Elly De La Cruz!

Yup, the 21-year-old shortstop who just got called up to the Majors on June 6th cruised around all the bases last night. He hit a single, a double, a triple, and a homer. In case you’re not paying attention, that means he hit for the cycle last night. That makes De La Cruz the youngest player to hit for the cycle and he’s the third player since 1901 to hit for the cycle within his first 15 games.

Now De La Cruz did his part bringing in 4 RBIs with his batting, but Joey Votto also brought in 4 RBIs and hit 2 homers himself. The Reds got some offensive help from a few others to take the 11-10 win.

p.s. Cincinnati is called the Reds because they used to wear knee-high red socks so people started calling them the Reds… now you know!

Baseball In Europe

If you’ve been to Europe you’ll quickly notice many people wearing a Yankees or a Red Sox hat and you might wonder if they actually watch baseball. The short answer is no, they have no idea what’s going on, they just like the hats.

But the long answer is a little different. The MLB is looking to grow it European fan base, and apparently, there are some people who enjoy baseball across the pond. The MLB had games in Europe in 2019 when the Yankees and Red Sox beat up each other with an insane amount of runs and that drew fans in.

The pandemic put a stop to the Europen games, but the MLB Europe office has been trying to keep fans engaged for as long as they could.

Well, today is the day London Stadium looks a little less rectangular shaped and more like a ballpark. The Chicago Cubs are playing the St. Louis Cardinals in a two-day series and you can watch the games live on Fox at 1:10 pm ET.

Check out the time-lapse of the field coming to life.

Curious about the field dimensions? It’s 330 feet down both lines and 392 feet in dead center. That center field is a little short…is the 13.5 over/under in jeopardy of getting crushed?

College World Series

The College Baseball World Series game 1 is set for tonight at 7 pm ET on ESPN. The 5th ranked LSU Tigers are facing the 2nd ranked Florida Gators in a best of 3 game series.

NFL Contract Extension

We’ve got an offseason NFL contract extension and it’s not for a current player. Nope, it’s for Sean McDermott, the head coach of the Buffalo Bills, and Brandon Beane who is the GM for the Bills. Both the Coach and GM have signed extensions that will keep them in Buffalo through the 2027 season.
