Memorial Day Mashup!

What’s up, everybody!

We hope you’re enjoying the holiday weekend and got those grills fired up.

Let’s look at what happened over the weekend and what you can expect today and tomorrow.

*Before we start today, we just wanted to mention the passing of PGA golfer Grayson Murray. He passed away suddenly after withdrawing from the Charles Schwab Challenge this weekend, and the golf world is mourning the loss. If you want to learn more about Murray, click here. You’ll also find some resources if you’re struggling with interpersonal challenges and feel like you need some help. Even if golf is a solo sport, you don’t have to go at life alone.

NBA Conference Finals Are Almost Unfair

Dallas Dominates In Final Minutes

🏀 The Dallas Mavericks have a 3-0 lead over the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Mavs have traild in the final 5 minutes of every game so far. The clutch gene has come out for the Mavericks, and they’ve been able to close out games with the help of their superstars, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

Get this… Before the Mavs got Kyrie, they were 6-15 in games that required clutch finishes. That’s being within 5 points of the lead with less than 5 minutes to go. Since the trade, the Mavs are the second-best clutch team in the league, finishing 23-9.

So.. how are the Mavs 3-0 in this series? Well, for starters, Karl Anthony Towns has been lackluster in his performances, Anthony Edwards can’t shut down Kyrie and the Mavs aren’t afraid of Rudy Gobert one bit.

On the other hand, the Mavs might be this good. Kryie and Luka have both scored 30+ in every game except game 2 where Kyrie only scored 23. The T-Wolves aren’t even playing that bad, the Mavs are just too good in the final 5 minutes.

Game 4 remains in Dallas, and if they win, Luka could get the rest he needs to help his knee recover.

The Celtics Can Close Out The Series Tonight

The Boston Celtics are one game away from reaching the NBA Finals, which was pretty much the only goal this season other than winning the entire thing. Anything less would be considered a bust for the season.

The Celtics took game 3 on the road after trailing by as many as 18. The Celtics trailed for 36 of the final 37 minutes in the game. They didn’t actually get a lead until 39 seconds were left on the clock, and Jrue Holiday kicked his fever that he had and made some huge plays. Holiday hit a big shot to take the lead at that 39 second mark and then the Pacers came down the court with the clock ticking down and Holiday made his biggest play of the night with a steal.

Game 4 is in Indy tonight and I’m not so sure the Celtics are going to complete this sweep and the gambling lines look to sweet tonight. The Pacers are 7.5 point underdogs, +235 to win straight up, and the O/U is 222.5. I think I’m taking the Pacers on both bets and the over in this one.

Battle For The Cup

The battle for the Stanley Cup is going completely differently than the NBA Conference championships. Here’s what we've got so far.

Eastern Conference Championship

🏒 The Florida Panthers came into MSG last Wednesday and pummeled the New York Rangers. The Rangers now have a 2-1 lead in the series after winning the last two matchups in overtime.

Yesterday’s game 3 was a wild one. The Panthers scored their first two goals on power plays and finished with 37 shots on goal.

The Rangers had no quit though and they got 2 goals from Alexis Lafreniere and Barclay Goodrow, with one of Goodrow’s goals coming shorthanded. The Rangers had a 4-2 lead at this point, but Florida would tie it up in just a 2-minute span in the 3rd period.

It went to OT, where the Rangers got the OT goal from their 3rd shift.

Game 4 stays in Florida

Game 3 in the West

🏒 The Dallas Stars knew they couldn’t go down 0-2 at home against the Edmonton Oilers. This seems to be Kickstarter for Dallas in all their series, though..start in a deficit and then kick it up a notch.

After a double OT loss in game 1, the Stars won game 2 with a tough 3-1 victory.

Both goalies are playing lights out in this matchup, and game 2 was a goalkeeping showdown. Stuart Skinner made 22 saves on 24 shots, and Jake Oettinger made 28 saves on 29 shots.

We’ve got game 3 in Edmonton tonight, and this thing should be a beauty.

Monaco Grand Prix

The Monaco Grand Prix took place yesterday and the Red Bull team did not win. I repeat, the Red Bull team did not win!

There was a bit of drama after Sergio Perez's Red Bull car was taken out in the first 400 meters of the race, and Max Verstappen had to race without a teammate.

Charles Leclerc won for Ferrari, and Carlos Sainz Jr. also placed 3rd for Ferrari. Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris placed 2nd and 4th for McLaren, and Max Verstappen placed 6th for Red Bull.

The Final Goodbye to the Pac-12

The Pac-12 conference has been around for more than 100 years, and we might have just seen the last play in the conference be a walk-off hit, and we may never see Pac-12 action again. RIP
