Mid-Week Update

Today's Estimated Reading Time: 3 minutes and 14 seconds

Howdy. If it seems like we’re talking football on Thursday through Tuesday, it’s probably because we are.. and we like it that way! Let’s get over this Wednesday hump and catch up on a few things.

Major League Baseball

Shohei Ohtani

Ohtani underwent elbow surgery yesterday for a torn UCL and although he didn’t disclose what type of surgery it was, many assume it was your typical Tommy John surgery.

Ohtani will be a free agent at the end of the year and he is expected to receive the richest contract in baseball history because of pitching and batting capabilities. His only downside, Ohtani won’t be able to pitch until the 2025 season but he will bat next year.

Many think Ohtani will win the AL MVP this year after he batted .304, had 151 hits, 26 doubles, eight triples, 44 home runs, 95 RBI, 102 runs, and 20 stolen bases. He was also 10-5 with a 3.14 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 167 strikeouts compared to 55 walks in 132 innings from the mound.

A 42-Year-Old Making History

Adam Wainwright, a 42-year-old pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals became the 122nd pitcher in MLB history to collect 200 wins on Monday night. Wainwright who is having one of his worst years from the mound in his career, secured his 200th win by allowing just four hits and two walks for a shutout over 7 innings against the Milwaukee Brewers. Closer Ryan Helsley tucked the Brewers in and read them a bedtime story so Wainwright could make history.

Only 11 Hours Of Sleep

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Yusei Kikuchi left the game against the Yankees last night due to some muscle cramps.

Get this. The Blue Jays chalked it up to Kikuchi not getting enough sleep. HE ONLY GOT 11 HOURS OF SLEEP instead of his 13 or 14.

Kikuchi still got the win after giving up just one run over 5 innings.

Rafael Nadal Gives Up The Crown

Novak Djokovic has surpassed Rafael Nadal as the greatest ever in Tennis. With Nadal out and recovering from injury he acknowledged that Djokovic is the best player in tennis history, as numbers are numbers and statistics are statistics, and Djokovic has better numbers than Nadal, especially titles.

Nadal has announced that 2024 will likely be the final year of his tennis career.

More Football

Coach Prime Defense Colorado State

CSU player Henry Blackburn delivered a late hit on Colorado’s star player Travis Hunter in last Saturday’s rocky mountain matchup. Hunter has been ruled out for 2-3 weeks and now Blackburn has been receiving death threats.

Here’s what Deion Sanders had to say about the threats.

“Henry Blackburn is a good player who played a phenomenal game. He made a tremendous hit on Travis on the sideline. You could call it dirty, you could call it he was just playing the game of football. But whatever it was, it does not constitute that he should be receiving death threats."

I’ll say no more, because you all know, don’t send death threats over football. K, Thanks.

Browns Need A Backup RB

The Cleveland Browns need a backup RB and they are bringing in Kareem Hunt for a visit and are considering the possibility of a trade with the LA Rams for Cam Akers.

Kareem Hunt has visited multiple teams this year but hasn’t signed with any and he’s been with the Browns organization for the last 4 years so he would be a seamless fit.

Cam Akers is only 24 years old so the Browns could get some good years out of him as a backup and if the Rams could get any type of a pick for Akers it could be a good thing as they had him as a healthy scratch on Sunday.

We’re going to cut it off there today and keep it a light read. Enjoy your Wednesday and we’ll be back tomorrow.
