Monday Night Takeover

+ Sunday Scores

Happy Monday. Did your team win last night? Good for you!

Your team lost? Stop at Dunkins, grab a donut and coffee and let’s move on. We’ve got TWO Monday Night Football games tonight and then we lick our wounds and move on to week 3.

Let’s jump into yesterday’s scores and talk about our tonight’s lineup.

Sunday Scores

Who’s Hot?

Miami Dolphins

  • The Dolphins are off to a 2-0 start and shut down a final series potential comeback from the New England Patriots. The Dolphins won by 7 in a 24-17 game where Tua Tagovailoa threw for 249 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT. The Dolphins have an opportunity to start 3-0 as they face the Denver Broncos next weekend.

Dallas Cowboys

  • The Cowboys’ defense looked fresh and fast against a weaker New York Jets offense that’s led by Zach Wilson. The Cowboys overpowered the Jets 4-0 in the turnover battle which included intercepting Zach Wilson 3 times. The Cowboys also tired out the Jets’ defense by possessing the ball for more than 70% of the game.

San Francisco 49ers

  • The 49ers offense was efficient in their 2nd game of the season. Even though the Rams outgained the Niners in overall yards, it was the SF’s run game that picked up the slack. The backfield of the 49ers combined for 159 rushing yards and Deebo Samuel, CMC, and Brocky Purdy all scored a rushing TD. We’re still high on SF, but they’ve got to clean up a few things in the passing game and we feel confident they’ll close up some of the defensive gaps we saw with their pass D. 49ers face the Giants, and then the Cardinals and have a chance to easily start out 4-0.

Baltimore Ravens

  • The Ravens’ offense looked good enough against the Bengals, especially with the injuries Baltimore faced in week 1. Lamar Jackson looked good on his feet and in the pocket and if he stays healthy, he’ll be exciting to watch all year.

Buffalo Bills

  • The Bills are 1-1 and their offense came out firing today. It looks like they needed a week to get back to normal after facing a tough Jets defense in week 1. The Bills beat the Raiders 38-10 and had 450 yards of total offense. Josh Allen was 31 of 37 and threw for 274 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Kansas City Chiefs

  • The Chiefs are 1-1 and they’re not as hot as they could be but we can’t take them off the hot list yet. Travis Kelce is getting more adjusted after missing week 1 with a hyperextended knee. The Chiefs won 17-7 and relied on their defense to help get the W.

Who’s Not?

Houston Texans

  • This is self-explanatory. 0-2 is not what you want but CJ Stroud looked pretty decent. The Rookie QB threw for 384, 2 TDs, and 0 INTs behind an o-line that’s missing 4 starters.

Las Vegas

  • The Raiders are 1-1 but got crushed by the Bills. Jimmy G. threw 2 picks and the Raiders might lose Davanta Adams for next week. The Raiders need a win vs the Steelers this coming week because the schedule doesn’t get easier except for the Bills game in October.

Chicago Bears

  • It’s not just a Justin Fields thing. The Chicago Bears just aren’t playing very well. On top of everything it seems like WR Chase Claypool isn’t happy in Chicago and maybe a trade is coming soon?

Cincinnati Bengals

  • I didn’t want to write the Bengals off. They started 0-2 last year and made the AFC Championship. It’s not an ideal start, but what’s less ideal is Joe Burrow might be back out on the sideline after reinjuring his calf during the game yesterday.

Arizona Cardinals

  • They at least look like they’re trying out there but the NY Giants just had a beautiful comeback. They’ll likely be 0-4 in two weekends and on their way to the #1 pick in the 2024 draft.

Denver Broncos

  • The Broncos had a last-second chance to tie it up against the Commanders and kind of got screwed on a no-call. Anyways, the Broncos are 0-2 but we think Sean Payton can get them back on track, but they do face a difficult schedule this year. At least the offense put up points for a change.

New England Patriots

  • Where do we start with the Pats? Yes, the Dolphins are good and yes, opening against the Eagles is tough but the Patriots have one of the best coaches to ever live. Nothing is going to come easy until about week 5 when the Pats face the Saints.

Who Are We Not Sure About

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • The Bucs are being led by Baker Mayfield and they’re 2-0. Mayfield threw for 317 and 1 TD yesterday but got help from the defense when Shaq Barrett brought a pick to the house. We don’t know what this Bucs team really is and I’m not sure we’ll find out. They could be a similar story to the Vikings last year. They could win a bunch of games, make playoffs, but it could be due to lucky scheduling.

Detroit Lions

  • The Lions had an impressive week 1 win against the Chiefs but may lose momentum after losing in OT to the Seahawks this week. The Lions play the Falcons next week.

Atlanta Falcons

  • The Falcons are fortunate to be in the same division as the Bucs and they face some easier scheduling this year as well. Bijan Robinson is an undeniable talent and Tyler Allgeier creates great depth in the backfield but Desmond Ridder shows that he can make some plays in crunch time.

LA Rams

  • The Rams still don't have the same star-filled roster they had a few years ago when they won the Super Bowl but their offense looks a lot better this year. They came up just a little short this week but found some holes in the 49ers defense. It doesn’t get easier next week for the Rams as they face the Eagles in a Sunday afternoon matchup.

New York Jets

  • The defense didn’t perform as well as in week 1 but they’re still formidable. In order for the Jets to win, they’ve got to keep the offense on the field for some longer drives so the D can rest up. It’s time for the Jets running game to step up.

New York Giants

  • The Giants are 1-1 and almost didn’t recover from a terrible week 1 loss to the Cowboys. The Giants had a 21-point comeback win against the Arizona Cardinals but Saquon Barkley got injured during the game and will be getting an MRI.

Washington Commanders

  • So the Commanders are 2-0…..weird but they’ve played two mediocre teams and have just escaped with wins. They’ve got the Bills then the Eagles, so we expect they’ll be 2-2 entering week 5.

Green Bay

  • Jordan Love had a mishap when the Packers had the lead and it was 4th and 1. It looked like Green Bay would run a QB sneak but Love tripped when he was about to snap the ball and got called for a false start. Yep, a QB was called for a false start. The Packers are playing mid-tier teams over the next few weeks, so I’d like to see their ability to close out games before moving them into the ‘hot” category.

Monday Night Football

We’ve got two Monday night games (if you haven’t heard by now). Let’s check them out.

New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers, 7:15 on ESPN and ESPN2

  • The Saints are giving 3 points to the Panthers and the O/U is 40. Can Panthers rookie QB get his first win in the NFL against Derek Carr and the Saints?

Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers, 8:15 ET on ABC

  • The Browns are giving 2 points and the O/U is 43

That’s a lot of football today and we’re over our time. We’ll do MLB, F1, and more football tomorrow.

Have a great day!
