It’s Tuesday, and we’re almost back to the Men’s Sweet 16… just hang in there, people!!!!

Yesterday, we had some Women’s March Madness that almost didn’t look good for the country’s most dominant player. We also had a wild comeback in the NBA and a few things going on in the NFL that might make your brain explode.

Let’s take a closer look. 👀

Women’s March Madness

Caitlin Clark Has A 🎯 On Her Back

🏀 West Virginia set out on a plan to pressure Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes all night. The 8-seed Mountaineers wanted to “send Caitlin Clark Packing,” and they thought they could full-court press the Hawkeyes out of a trip to the New York State Capital for Regionals.

👉️ For most of the game Clark wasn’t phased by the pressure and she finished with 32 points. BUT. WV did take the lead in the 4th quarter, and as dialed up as the pressure was, I think the referees helped Iowa out a little. Either way, Iowa is the nation’s best-scoring team, with an average of 92.8 points per game, and we’re held to 64. It was a good performance by WV, even though they couldn’t pull off the upset.

🙌 Clark also broke the single-season NCAA Division I scoring record of 1,109 held by Kelsey Plum.

USC Continues Domination

🏀 1 seed USC defeated 8 seed Kansas 73-55. JuJu Watkins scored 28 points for the Trojans. The last time USC advanced to the Sweet 16, Lisa Leslie was a senior at USC. Enough said.

UConn Is Just LOL Good

🏀 Paige Beueckers dropped 32 points in a UConn Huskies 72-64 win over the Syracuse Orange, and she did it in the middle of campus at Gampel Arena. . UConn is a 3 seed, but they have the potential to make a run for a title this year. UConn is advancing to the Sweet 16 for the 31st consecutive season. WTF!

Kind Of a Wild Night In The NBA

🏀 Should we start with Domantas Sabonis? Why not. Sabonis had his 54th straight double-double last night in a Kings win over the 76ers. This is the longest streak since 1976-77. That’s wild! SABONIS AIN’T DONE THOUGH! He then became the 5th player ever with 25 triple-doubles in a season! Sabonis had 11 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists in a 108-96 win.

🏀 Speaking of triple-doubles, Luka Doncic also had one in a Mavericks 115-105 win over the Utah Jazz. Luka finished with 29 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists.

🏀 Pascal Siakam was that dude last night as the Pacers got a huge 133-116 win over the LA Clippers. Siakam had 31 points and was throwing down some dunkaroos.

🏀 Nikola Jokic only played 31 minutes last night but still dropped 29 points in a Denver 128-103 win over the Grizzlies.

🏀 Donte DiVincenzo took advantage of the Knicks playing one of the worst teams in the NBA. He dropped a 40 burger after going 11-20 from three, and the Knicks got a 124-99 win. Jalen Brunson also scored 28.

The Hawks Did What?

👉️ The Atlanta Hawks came back from a 30-point deficit last night against the Boston Celtics and won(obviously they won, why else would we be mentioning the comeback). The Celtics were on a 9-game win streak, and they were up 68-38 with just 4.5 minutes left in the first half. Sit your starters, am I right??

👀The Hawks had different plans as they’re trying to hang on to a play-in spot for the playoffs. Atlanta went on a 9-0 scoring run at the end of the 2nd quarter and then scored 19 of the first 23 points in the 3rd quarter. It all came down to the final seconds when De’Andre Hunter hit a last-second three to win 120-118.

What’s Going On In The NFL

🚫The hip-drop tackle has been banned by the NFL. You’ve seen the play a thousand times, and you know exactly what it looks like because you do the weird “oooh, don’t let me see a broken leg” look every time someone gets tackled like this. Well, after enough dudes went down last year with high ankle sprains or broken ankles, the hip drop tackle is banned and will result in a 15-yard penalty and an automatic first down.

I think this is a result of a few things.

1. TE’s and RB’s are freaking monsters, and you can’t hit them high anymore.

2. Every player is defenseless on offense, and guys are afraid to lay a big stick, so they need to chase someone down and hip-drop them to get them to the ground. Also, with all the rules changes protecting offensive players, the league is becoming faster, and you don’t have these massive, hard-hitting linebackers and safeties who can take anyone down.

3. All the player negotiations lead to less contact in practice, which results in guys not having great technique on the field and needing to tackle the way they do.

📆 The first watchable game of the NFL is scheduled. THURSDAY, AUGUST 1ST, 8 PM, BEARS VS TEXANS. Set your reminders now because it’s the Hall of Fame game, and who doesn’t love watching this terrible game in August every year? The question is… will Caleb Williams be playing for the Bears?

🤣 New York Giants co-owner John Mara is giving the team the 👍️ if they want to draft a QB. Mara said, “If they fall in love with a QB and believe it’s worth the No.6 pick or moving up, I would certainly support that”. I guess my question is what does falling in love with a QB look like? Does it look like a 4-year, $160 million contract?

🐬 Odell Beckham Jr. might be heading to Miami to join the WR squad. The Dolphins have offered him a contract, and OBJ is currently considering it. Beckham had 35 catches for 565 yards and 3 TDS last season with the Ravens.

❗️Don’t you just love draft season? Like a month ago, it was going to be the Bears and Commanders definitely taking QBs. Maybe the Patriots. Now, about a month away from the draft, the Denver Broncos are saying it’s realistic that they could move up and draft a QB in the draft. Denver currently had the no.12 pick, so they would need to make some moves to get either Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, J.J. McCarthy, Bo Nix, or Michael Penix Jr.

The current draft order is

1) Chicago Bears (from Carolina)
2) Washington Commanders
3) New England Patriots
4) Arizona Cardinals
5) Los Angeles Chargers
6) New York Giants
7) Tennessee Titans
8) Atlanta Falcons
9) Chicago Bears
10) New York Jets
11) Minnesota Vikings
12) Denver Broncos
13) Las Vegas Raiders
14) New Orleans Saints

Realistically, every team in this draft shoudl be taking a QB, except for the Chargers. I don’t think you need to take a guy in the first round. Arizona, Tennessee, and Atlanta should be looking to get someone in round 3, but everyone else needs a QB, so this will be an interesting draft.
