Let’s do it

Joel Embiid Wins His First MVP

Joel Embiid was the MVP runner-up the last two seasons, finishing behind Nikola Jokic both times. It was looking like it could be a 3-peat of the same scenario midway through the season until Embiid brought out some dominant performances like a 52-point game against the Celtics in April where he shot 80%.

Embiid, who is from Cameroon, lead the league in scoring with 33.1 points per game and he finished 7th in rebounding. He is the second African born player to win the MVP and he’s the first 76er to do it since Allen Iverson in 2001.

Here’s how the votes turned out.

NBA Playoffs

Tuesday Night Specials

If you watched the games last night, you were in for a treat. We had back-and-forth games all night and big-time plays made by big-time players.

Miami Heat 105

New York Knicks 111

  • The series is tied up at 1-1 after the Knicks took down a Butlerless Miami Heat team at MSG

  • The stars showed up for the Knicks with Julius Randle scoring 25 and grabbing 12 rebounds, Jalen Brunson having 30 and RJ Barrett having 24

Los Angeles Lakers 117

Golden State Warriors 112

  • What a game we had last night as the Lakers steal a road win and go up 1-0 in the series

  • Both teams hit 43 shots on the court last night with Golden State hitting 15 more 3’s than LA. So how did LA win? The difference maker was free throws. Golden State is one of the worst teams in the NBA when it comes to getting free throws and they also send their opponent to the free-throw line at a high rate. The Lakers grabbed an additional 25 points from the charity line.

  • The Lakers got 30 points and 23 rebounds from Anthony Davis, 22 points from LeBron, and D’Angelo Russell and Dennis Schroder both scored 19

  • It wasn’t all bad for Golden State. Curry scored 27 and Klay Thompson started looking normal again, putting up 25

Tonight’s Matchup

Philadelphia 76ers at Boston Celtics, 8:00 pm ET on TNT

  • The 76ers are up 1-0 in the series

  • Joel Embiid is likely out tonight for Philly and Marcus Smart is questionable for the Celtics

Stanley Cup Playoffs

Tuesday Night Scoreboard

When it comes to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, they’re always long, hard, and tough. Players take to the ice every other night and the battles are grueling. You’re going to be fatigued and upsets are going to happen. But how many upsets are we going to have? The Seattle Kraken surprised everyone with a series win over last year’s Cup winner but the Florida Panthers REALLY SURPRISED us with a series win over the Boston Bruins. Both teams are using that momentum as the “underdogs” in their 2nd playoff series.

Florida Panthers 4

Toronto Maple Leafs 2

  • The Panthers got out to a 2-0 lead just 8 minutes into the 2nd period

  • Toronto tied it up with 2 goals over the next 7 minutes but then Carter Verhaeghe scored the go-ahead goal

  • Brandon Montour added some buffer into the lead with 7 minutes to go in the 3rd

Seattle Kraken 5

Dallas Stars 4

  • 6 goals were scored in the first period of this game where Seattle took a 4-2 lead and Dallas’ 2 goals came from Joe Pavelski

  • It was a quiet 2nd period with no scores and then Joe Pavelski tied up the game in the 3rd with 2 more goals

  • This game went into OT and Dallas was holding possession for about the first five minutes and Seattle was able to keep them scoreless

  • Yanni Gourde eventually scored for the Kraken 12 minutes into the overtime period with this goal.

It’s almost impossible to see what happen so watch it from this angle

Tonight’s Matchup

New Jersey Devils at Carolina Hurricanes, 7:00 pm ET on ESPN

  • East 2nd round, Game 1

Edmonton Oilers at Vegas Golden Knight, 9:30 pm ET on ESPN

  • West 2nd round, Game 1
