Do NBA Players Get Ejected For Shadow Boxing?

Morning. We’ve got the newest CFP rankings, drama on the basketball court, and new cities for the Premier Lacrosse League. Let’s run through this and have you on your way.

The Committee

The College Football Playoff Committee released the newest rankings last night and there were some minor changes. As a reminder, the committee looks at things like:

  • Strength of schedule

  • Conference championships

  • Head-to-head

  • Results vs. common opponents

  • Results vs. ranked opponents

Let’s see the new rankings.

As you can see, the biggest change was at the top where Georgia overtook Ohio State as the favorite after a big win against Ole Miss. Ohio State handled their business against Michigan State, but the back-to-back win against ranked opponents gives Georgia the boost.

Michigan stayed in the #3 spot with a 24-15 win over Penn State that was more dominant than the score shows. Michigan only threw the ball 1 time in the 2nd half and they got this win against a top-10 team without their head coach on the sideline.

The #4 spot starts to get mucky. It’s East Coast vs West Coast in this one, literally from one corner of the country to the other where Florida State stayed in the top 4 but Washington has a viable case as to why they should be in the #4 spot. Florida State battled it out with a talented Miami team in an in-state rivalry game. Washington had a nice win against a strong Utah team, but here’s the thing. Neither teams nor the fanbases should sweat this. If both teams take care of business and win out, they’ll have a spot in the playoffs. Michigan/OSU will result in 1 of the teams losing and there's your spot. FSU or Washington just better not lose, because that will open the door for a 1 loss Oregon, Texas, or Bama.

Here’s the important part of this. Next year we move to a 12-team playoff. Currently, Oregon, Texas, Bama sit in the 6,7,8 spots and they should all get sorted out in conference Championships. Look at 9-12. Are these the teams you really want to see in the playoffs? These are the teams that didn’t take care of business in the regular season and now they’ll have a shot at the title? It doesn’t sit right with me, but different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

College Bball

👉️ The No. 1 ranked Kansas Jayhawks faced the No. 17 Kentucky Wildcats at neutral site in Chicago last night. The Jayhawks pulled off a close win 89-84 in what was a battle down low. Kansas’ 7 foot 2 center Hunter Dickinson had 27 points and 21 rebounds and Kentucky was without two of their centers. Dajuan Harris Jr. also scored 23 points for the Jayhawks.

👀 Kentucky is a young team, and if they can keep up with a talented Jayhawks team, they should be a tough team to beat come tournament time. The Jayhawks are obviously the team to beat at the moment and they’ll need to clean up some turnovers if they want to stay at #1.

Here are some other scores from last night.

🏀 #4 Marquette beat #23 Illinois 71-64

🏀 #5 UConn worked Mississippi Valley State 87-53

🏀 #7 Tennessee defeated Wofford 82-61

🏀 #8 Creighton just held off a final Iowa push but got the W 92-84

🏀 #9 Duke defeated #18 Michigan State 74-65

Drama On The Hardwood

🥊 Less than two minutes into the Warriors vs. Timberwolves matchup last night, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, and Jaden McDaniels were all ejected. McDaniels was grabbing(with some force) Klay Thompson during a transition play and a small scuffle started. Draymond came to defend his man and ended up having Rudy Gobert in a full chokehold and was about to read him a bedtime story. Check it out.

👀 Did anyone notice the disgusting courts that teams are playing on during their in-season tournament games? You might like them, but I certainly don’t. Here’s the deal; early in the summer, the NBA rolled out this plan to use these courts so they needed to rush to rent court and get them painted for the season. I might hate the way they look, but some players hate the way they perform.

👉️Luka Doncic was pointing fingers after a 131-110 loss in New Orleans to the Pelicans yesterday where he had multiple turnovers. He said the court was slippery and didn’t have the same bounce as the normal courts or even the court they’ve been playing on in Dallas. Not sure if Luka knows that the other 9 guys are also playing on the same court as him during the game?

😆 The LA Clippers lost to the Denver Nuggets 111-108 last night and while the defending champs are super talented, the Clippers have lost 5 straight since James Harden joined the squad. Check out the rest of the scores from last night here.

PLL Teams Find A Home

Yesterday the PLL announced the eight home markets for their eight lacrosse clubs. After functioning as a touring league for the first five years, the PLL will begin the process of moving towards city-based teams this summer. While summer 2024 will still feature a tour-like schedule, teams will play two games in their home market weekend this summer while the league continues to tour from city to city each weekend. 8 of the 14 weeks will played in one of the cities below and the other 6 weeks will be played in other cities, similar to the past years.

The markets and teams are:

  • Boston Cannons

  • New York Atlas

  • Philadelphia Waterdogs

  • Maryland Whipsnakes

  • Carolina Chaos

  • Denver Outlaws

  • Utah Archers
