NFL Week 3 + No Upsets on Saturday?

Good Morning. We had an exciting day of college football and even though we didn’t have any upsets in the top 25 we had a great day of ball. Let’s do some rapid fire recap and talk a little NFL. We’ll keep it short and sweet so you can read for a sunday full of NFL.

College Football

You can check out the full scoreboard for the top 25 here.

#4 Florida State 31, Clemson 24

  • This game came down to OT and Florida was able to come up with a stop and grab the W. Clemson looked better than their week 1 opener but they’re just not the same caliber team program as a few years ago

#7 Penn State 31, #34 Iowa 0

  • Penn State is the real deal. They ran 97 plays yesterday and kept Iowa off the field most of the game. Iowa only ran 33 plays. Penn State is going to be a big problem for both Michigan and Ohio State.

#6 Ohio State 17, #9 Notre Dame 14

  • If you didn’t catch this game, you need to watch the ending here. Ohio State scored the game-winning touchdown with 1 second to go. I’m honestly confused about the game management from Notre Dame and I think they called timeouts at very odd times. This might ruin Notre Dame’s playoff chances but if they can get a win against USC, maybe they still have a shot?

#8 Washington 59, California 32

  • Washington is a really good football team and it’s going to create some interesting scenarios in the Pac-12. Michael Penix Jr. is a great QB and the Washington O-line is as sharp as they come. I’d like to see the defense not give up 32 to Cal though!

#10 Oregon 42, #19 Colorado 6

  • Listen, we love the story but we knew it was going to end this week. Oregon is a very good football team and they just have more manpower than Colorado currently. It’s as simple as that.

#15 Ole Miss 10, #13 Alabama 24

  • I really thought Ole Miss would keep it closer, which they did in the first half but their second half just wasn’t very good. Nick Saban is one of the best coaches of all time so I guess you’d expect some good halftime adjustments. Bama still has a talented roster, just not as talented as the last few years.

That’s all we wanted to cover out of the big games. Maybe we’ll do a deeper dive midweek.

NFL Week 3

There are a few games that I’m looking to get some info from. Let’s go over them.

Atlanta Falcons at Detroit Lions, 1 pm ET on CBS

  • The Falcons are 2-0 and the Lions are 1-1. The Detroit offensive line is a little banged up right now but I’m trying to figure out which team is the real deal here. Can Bijan Robinson carry the workload for the Falcons or will it be Jahmyr Gibbs helping Jared Goff get some extra time to throw for the Lions. Detroit is giving 3 points here. I think you need to pick the Falcons but I think Detroit wins by 1 point at home.

Buffalo Bills at Washington Commanders, 1 pm ET on CBS

  • We’re all thinking about this game exactly the same. The Bills are favored by 6.5 points, but anything can happen in the NFL. I don’t think the Commanders are the real deal with Sam Howell as QB but Josh Allen needs to come in a play another clean game of football. Bills win outright, but I think Washington covers.

Denver Broncos at Miami Dolphins, 1 pm ET on CBS

  • Jaylen Waddle is out for the Dolphins with a concussion and I’m curious to see how this affects the passing game. The Broncos defense hasn’t played great lately but the offense has some things rolling. The Broncos are 0-2 and Sean Payton could really use a win if the Dolphins can grab a win at home after 2 wins on the road, that would be huge, especially with WR2 out. Miami is a 6.5-point favorite, and I think the Broncos will cover but will ultimately lose by a field goal.

New England Patriots at New York Jets, 1 pm ET on CBS

  • New England is a 2.5-point favorite in a road game and I think this game all comes down to QB play. The Pats defense is good but not as good as the Jets. Can Mac Jones make smart decisions and good throws or will it be Zach Wilson who makes 1 or 2 big-time throws and be conservative the rest of the game? I might stay away from this one, but if I had to lean towards anything, I’d take the Pats -2.5.

I think the 1 p.m. slate is full of great games today. If you want the full schedule for today, check it out here.

We’ll be back tomorrow with a Sunday recap and we’ll talk Monday Night Football.
