Not Showing Up To The Career Fair

+ 3 Teams Avoid Elimination

Today’s Estimated Reading Time: 4 minutes and 43 seconds

Good Morning and welcome to the Daily Breakroom. We’ve got the normal NBA and NHL updates as the playoffs continue. We’ve also got some other news in both leagues and we’re mixing in a little footie action too.

We’re not shy, so let’s jump right into it!

NBA Scores and Schedule

Wednesday Night Scores

Miami Heat 103

New York Knicks 112

  • Jalen Brunson scored 38 points for the Knicks, willing them to a game 6 and keeping New York's season alive

  • RJ Barrett scored 26 and Julius Randle scored 24 for the Knicks.

  • The Heat almost completed a comeback after being down 16 midway through the 3rd. The Heat would get it within 2 points around the two-minute mark and the Knicks were ultimately able to stifle the Heats’ final efforts.

  • Jimmy Butler was the high scorer for the Heat with 19

Los Angeles Lakers 106

Golden State Warriors 120

  • This was close most of the first half until Golden State started adding some buffer with 3 minutes to go in the 2nd. It was 58-54 when the Warriors hit a deep shot with 3 minutes to go and were up 61-64. Curry then hit a big three-pointer at the end of the first half to give the Warriors an 11-point lead heading into the locker room.

  • The Lakers struggled to get within the 11-point margin the entire 2nd half.

  • There was decent action from the Warriors’ starting 5 as they combined for 95 of the Warriors’ 120. Steph had 27, Andrew Wiggins had 25, and Draymond Green had 20.

  • LeBron scored 25 for the Lakers and AD had 23 before taking an accidental elbow to the face and had to leave the game.

Thursday Night Matchups

Boston Celtics at Philadelphia 76ers, 7:30 pm ET on ESPN

  • The Celts are on the brink of elimination, down 3-2.

  • Can Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum come up with a big game as they’ve done in past elimination moments? Tune in to find out.

Denver Nuggets at Phoenix Suns, 10:00 pm ET on ESPN

  • The Nuggets lead the series 3-2

  • Chris Paul is out and Deandre Ayton is questionable for the Suns tonight.

Stanley Cup Playoffs

Wednesday Scoreboard

Toronto Maple Leafs 2

Florida Panthers 1

  • The Maple Leafs avoid the series sweep and will get another game in Toronto on Saturday in hopes to keep their season alive

  • It took 23 minutes for the first goal in the game to be scored by Toronto. The Leafs put the eventual go-ahead goal in the net 10 minutes into the 3rd period

  • The Panthers scored a goal two minutes after the Leafs in the 3rd and they scrapped for the final 8 minutes trying to tie it up and get into OT. They actually more than scrapped until the end, there was a bit of a scuffle after the final horn that eventually needed to be cleared by the refs.

Vegas Golden Knights 1

Edmonton Oilers 4

  • This series is tied 2-2 as both teams have split their home and away games.

  • The Oilers’ had a strong night on the offense but no goals came from Leon Draisaitl or Connor McDavid. They did combine for 3 assists but the 4 goals came from 4 individual players.

Thursday Night Matchups

NJ Devils at Carolina Hurricanes, 7:00 pm ET on TNT

  • The ‘Canes lead the series 3-1 and can eliminate the Devils with a home win and grab a few extra day’s rest

They Didn’t Give This Advice In College

It goes a little something like this.

  • Go to the career fair

  • Introduce yourself and hand out resumes to companies

  • See if you like the company, its culture, and the opportunities

  • Pray you know someone who already works there and you can do an interview at the career fair

  • Maybe get a job? Woooooo!

Well, None of this applies to you if you are 7’2”, 19 years old, and the top NBA prospect for the 2023 draft. Yes, you get to skip your “career fair”

Victor Wembanyama will not be attending the NBA draft combine despite being the 99.99% (dare we say 100%) likely number-one pick. Wembanyama’s current team, Metropolitans 92, plays in the highest tier of French basketball and his team will still be in season. Wembanyama might be the best prospect since LeBron. He leads the French league in points, rebounds, and blocks per game.

What do you think Wembanyama's legacy will be?

Can We Get Some Special Treatment?

Colorado Avalanche Captain Gabriel Landeskog is expected to miss the entire 2023-24 NHL season due to a KNEE CARTILAGE TRANSPLANT.

Landeskog underwent knee surgery in March 2022 and quickly returned to the ice, helping the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup. He missed this year’s regular season and Colorado’s short playoff season due to continuing knee issues.

The Swede underwent the procedure on Wednesday in Chicago with Dr. Brian Cole performing the operation at the Rush University Medical Center.

Did anyone else know about cartilage transplants? I think we all could use a dose of that!

UEFA Champions League

We just finished leg 1 of the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. Real Madrid faced Manchester City Tuesday night and that resulted in a 1-1 draw.

AC Milan faced Inter Milan in the other semi-final matchup last night in Italy where Inter Milan captured the win 2-0.

Next week, the same teams will face off for leg 2, which is just a second game played at the other team’s home site. The UEFA Championship is scheduled for June 10.

That’s all for today. Have a great day!
