Ohtani Shines
Today's Estimated Reading Time: 3 minutes and 29 seconds
Good Morning from the Daily Breakroom. We’ve got another mix of sports today as we’ll discussing:
⚾️ Shohei Ohtani Shines Once Again
🏀 Golden State Warriors
🏀 Season Ticket Stockmarket
🎾 Wimbledon
🏒 NHL Draft
⚽️ Footie Action for Team USA
Before we jump into any of the sports, we’d like to mention the passing of Ryan Mallet, a former NFL QB, and Arkansas Razorback. He died in an apparent drowning on Tuesday and the football community and his local community are all mourning this loss. He was 35.
Welcome To The Shohei Show
It’s Shohei Ohtani’s world and we’re just living in it. Ohtani hit a solo homer in the first inning of the Los Angeles Angels matchup against the Chicago White Sox. He also threw 6 1/3 innings and struck out 10 batters, all while allowing only one run. His night on the mound was cut short because he cracked his fingernail.
His night didn’t end though. Ohtani was back in the batter’s box during the 7th inning and “cracked” another home run. Ohtani now has 28 homers on the season and he became the sixth player with 10 strikeouts and two home runs in a game.

Golden State Warriors
Donte DiVincenzo has declined his player option with the Golden State Warriors and will be entering into free agency. This isn’t a massive surprise as he was only set to make $4.7 million and will certainly cash in for more than that on the open market. DiVincenzo averaged 40% from 3-point land this season and was a valuable defender. Let’s see where he lands.
Since We’re Talking Golden State
The Warriors are building a veteran team after letting DiVincenzo walk and moving Jordan Poole out of the building and this seems to bring a calming presence to the team. Superstars and splash brothers Klay Thompson and Step Curry are excited to play with newly added team member Chris Paul.
Here’s what the two had to say about adding CP3 to the squad.
"Every team that CP has been on gets better. That’s the most consistent thing about him, and who he is and what he brings to the team." - Steph Curry
"I think he’s just going to add such a calming presence and leadership component that we need." - Clay Thompson
I think a lot of NBA fans are curious about this fit and are wondering how CP3 can work with the Warriors system. If any two people can figure it out, it’s Steve Kerr and Chris Paul.
Season Ticket Stock Market
BUY BUY BUY!
SELL SELL SELL!
It’s a frenzy out there when you’re trying to snag up some season tickets and you’re team just drafted the best prospect since LeBron.
The San Antonio Spurs have received around 4,000 new deposits for season tickets and experienced a 3000% increase in YoY online traffic and sales within 2 days of drafting Victor Wembanyama.
We looked into the ticket situation here and honestly, they’re not that bad. You can get into a ticket plan for $47 a month and that could get you anywhere from 10 to 20 games. It’s a pretty good price to see what Wemby can do in person.
Wimbledon
Just this week, Carlos Alcaraz surpassed Novak Djokovic as world #1 in the tennis ranking. The #1 ranking has been fluid this year and it continues to change hands depending on who’s healthy and playing well for a certain stretch.
With Alcaraz being world #1, he receives the Gentlemen’s Singles top seed at Wimbledon. It’s the first time since 2003 that the 1 seed is not taken by someone named Djokovic, Federer, Murray, or Nadal.
The singles matches will begin on July 3 and the Men’s final match will be played on July 16. We’ll update you in a few days on the schedule and how you can watch it.
NHL Draft
The NHL Draft is live tonight with Round 1 taking place at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN. Tune in at 7 pm ET on ESPN to watch Connor Bedard go number 1 to the Chicago Blackhawks.
USMNT Plays Tonight
The USMNT plays Saint Kitts and Nevis in a group A matchup of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Gametime is set for 9:30 pm ET and you can watch on FS1.
That’s all for today. Hang in there, we’re getting close to the 4th of July weekend, where barbeques and libations await.
Have a day!
