Overtime Thrills
+ what's Michael Scott got to do with this?
Well, well, well, how the turn tables.
New Yorkers and Bostonians don’t always share the same pain when it comes to sports, but last night hit differently for both fan bases.
And everyone in the Northeast was going to bed with this face.

Let’s take a look at what went down last night in overtime. We also have plenty of first-round series that are turning into a race, and some others have been closed out.
Let’s go.
Knicks squander lead in last 30 seconds
The Knicks had a 6-point lead with 30 seconds to go in game 5 last night, and they were about to bounce the Sixers from the playoffs. Bye-bye, Joel Embiid.
Well, Tyrese Maxey had different plans for his team, and he scored 7 points in 17 seconds to get this game to OT. Yup, Maxey had an and-1 three with 25 seconds left and then he hit the game-tying 3 with 8 seconds to go. Maxey finished the 4th and quarter OT with 22 points and had a playoff career-high total of 46 points.
The Sixers outscored the Knicks 15-9 in OT to win 112-106.
Game 6 is heading to Philly.
The Bruins had a chance to close out the series
The Bruins had a 3-1 lead over the Toronto Maple Leafs and the B’s had the opportunity to close the door on this series in Boston last night. The Maple Leafs were hitting the ice without Auston Matthews after a doctor pulled him from the lineup in game 4 the other night. The Leafs would be without the NHL’s top goal scorer.
The Leafs would score quickly in the first period, and Boston would follow up a few minutes later even though Toronto outshot Boston 12-2 in the first. After a dry 2nd period, The Bruins had quite a few chances in the 3rd period to score a game-winning goal but couldn’t put the puck on the net.
This game would head into OT, and Matthew Knies would score 2:26 into extra time, and we’re creating storylines here. Game 6 is back in Toronto, and maybe Auston Matthews will be back in the lineup tomorrow night in full health.
Other NBA News
🏀 It looks like the Cleveland/Orlando series is all about home court. Cleveland dominated the first two at home, Orlando did the same in the next 2, and Cleveland just snuck out a 104-103 win in game 5 in Cleveland.
It was a full team effort by Cleveland. They got 28 from Donovan Mitchell, 23 from Darius Garland and Max Strus, Evan Mobley, and Marcus Morris combined for 42 points.
Evan Mobley had a big-time block at the end of the game to seal this one up.
Evan Mobley with a GIGANTIC block at the end of the game to seal the win in Game 5 for the Cavs!

🏀 The Milwaukee Bucks were on the brink of elimination, down 3-1 to the Indiana Pacers. The Bucks avoided elimination by winning 115-92, and Doc Rivers claims that Giannis and Dame are close to returning.
The Bucks had big nights from Bobby Portis and Khris Middleton with each scoring 29 points. Here’s the thing, though: the Pacers did not shoot well last night. The Pacers were 44% from the field and 31% from 3, well below their normal shooting average. Sure, you can call it good defense from the Bucks, but if the Pacers get hot in game 6, I don’t think the Bucks can do anything about it.
Stanley Cup Playoffs
🏒 The Carolina Hurricanes closed out their series against the NY Islanders with a 6-3 win last night. The ‘Canes had a 3-1 at the end of the first period, and NY would tie it up in the 2nd, but Carolina shut out NY with a 3-goal third period. Carolina will face the Rangers in the next series.
🏒 The Colorado Avalanche defeated the Winnipeg Jets 6-3 last night to win their series 4 games to 1. The game was tied 3-3 until Mikko Rantanen scored 2 goals in the final period to give the Avs the lead and then more separation.
🏒The Nashville Preds avoided elimination by the Vancouver Canucks last night. After a scoreless two periods in Vancouver, the Canucks would score 3 minutes into the third period. The Predators would get a power play and tie it back up 4 minutes later. Just a few minutes after that, the Predators would score the go-ahead goal. Game 6 is heading back to Nashville, and we’ve got a series!
A bit of randomness
🏈 The State of Kansas is trying to steal the Chiefs and Royals from Missouri. A bill was proposed by the Kansas state legislature that would authorize a bond of at least $1 billion to build two new stadiums for each team and bring the teams across the border. Well, not two stadiums for each; we mean 1 stadium for each, but two total. 😆 You get the idea.
The bill was not brought up for a vote yet, so it’s unclear if they are going to push this out for a vote or if the public officials were just doing some daydreaming at work.
🏈The Chiefs’ don’t really care where they play, they can win anywhere. In the past few years, the only ones to really give them a run for the money are the Cincinnati Bengals, which is about to be the LSU Bengals or Cincinnati Tigers… take your pick. There was a little private jet action that had Burrow and OBJ hanging out together.
Could we have Burrow, OBJ, and Ja’Marr Chase on the same squad this year?? 👀 👀

⚾️ Mike Trout has suffered a torn meniscus and will need surgery. There is no timetable for his return.
💸There’s more news on the Ohtani gambling scandal. Apparently, Ohtani’s translator was laundering money through casinos to the bookie in 500k portions. You can read more about it here but man, this translator is like the Japanese version of Jason Bourne.
